The Chinese name of Pheasant Garden (of Beijing Zoo) is “雉鸡苑”。"雉" means "pheasant", "鸡" literally means "chicken", and "苑" means "garden".
In Chinese, the Chrysolophus pheasants are called “锦鸡”, literally "brocade chicken", while the Crossoptilon pheasants are called “马鸡”, literally "horse-chicken".

In addition, the southern crowned pigeon in Pheasant Garden is also considered as a breed of chicken by many tourists.
