South China Tigers born

Any new update on the SA South China tiger project?

Not really i'm afraid..
''Madonna'' mated with ''327'' in mid June & as far as i'm aware hasn't come back into oestrus yet, so there could be new cubs in early October. The five adolescents (Hulooo, JenB, Coco, Princess & King Henry) are all within the same, large hunting camp now, still hunting for themselves. King Henry & Princess will be two years old exactly next week.
I'll keep you all posted on anything else i hear :)

Quick update over the last month. ''327'' fell drastically ill in August, but with treatment has made a full recovery, although they are still monitoring his progress.

Week 364 ( 13th to 19th August 2010 ) | Save China's Tigers

Li Quan has released a book dedicated to the Rewilding of the tigers, the book is called 'Rewilded' (see below)

Welcome to Save Chinas Tigers E-Shop | Save China's Tigers

The three boys, ''Hulooo'', ''JenB'' and ''Coco'' are doing well and still hunting for themselves. ''Hulooo'' will be three years old this November.

Week 366 ( 27th August to 2nd September 2010 ) | Save China's Tigers

And as far as i'm aware ''Madonna'' still has not come into oestrus since mating with ''327'' in June, and so will hopefully give birth within the next fortnight! :D

Shanghai Zoo new cubs

SHANGHAI Zoo has opened a "nursery" and "kindergarten" for eight South China tiger cubs and a jaguar cub, officials said yesterday.

The four cubs in the nursery - three tigers and a jaguar born this year - had been abandoned by their mothers, the zoo said.

Qing Qing, the tigers' mother, had four cubs on April 14, but refused to feed them. She had abandoned cubs twice before, so the zoo was fully prepared. Carers put the cubs into feeding boxes and fed them with milk. The weakest, however, died three days later.

The jaguar is about a month younger than the tigers and they bully him. "They could play together but could never eat together," said Liu Qunxiu, a carer with the zoo. "The baby tigers would rob the jaguar for his food, and the jaguar was not able to beat them.

"They can stay together for at most another one to two months," he added, "or they'll fight every day."

Carers said that in the nursery, the cubs will be expected to learn to eat by themselves. When they are a year old, they will be moved to the kindergarten for another year. Five young tigers born last year are already in the kindergarten.
