I guess only a Zoo person would have the skill to use a blowdart gun in an out of control situation like this. There has been further discussion in the News recently about why such attacks are still happening as frequently as they do, and why the Dangerous Dogs Bill isn't working- too many loopholes about the 'breeds' that are named as illegal and confusion over their exact identities.

From the park's facebook:
Maybe even more Sumatran Tiger cubs!keepers are keeping a close eye on Alisha the female Sumatran Tiger as she may be pregnant.
First our second set of twin Cotton Topped Tamarins born this year and then April our oldest Ring Tailed Lemur had twins making it 3 babies so far this year.

It would be fantastic if Alisha was pregnant again, although I hope she is able to rear any future cubs on her own.

From the park's Facebook page:

- There have been eight recent ring-tailed lemur births and (probably far more exciting) the second birth of a paca at the park.

A number of years ago in Auckland NZ the then Curator of the zoo, Graham Meadowes, was called in to dart a mentally unstable, out of control patient at the local psychiatric hospital. He did so, quickly and efficiently, and thus speedily resolved a potentially very dangerous situation that would otherwise have dragged on for hours.

He was pilloried by the civil libertarians and, as a result, I doubt that anyone will take such an eminently sensible course of action again.

This is indeed exciting - would love to see this species spread a bit more in the UK/Europe.

Hopefully a Pygmy Hippo will be born later this year to Quma and Wamburtuh,2 of the 3 female White Rhinos are also expecting the third is from one of the females born in 2008.

There is NO way a female white rhino is capable of holding the weight of an adult bull at the age of 2.5 years old, also there is no way she is fully sexually mature at this age neither....

Think before you speculate!

far be it for me to defend jordan-12, but when he wrote "2 of the 3 female White Rhinos are also expecting the third is from one of the females born in 2008" what I think he actually meant was (with a bit of editing):
"Two of the three female White Rhinos are also expecting. The third White Rhino (i.e. the one that isn't pregnant) is a calf born in 2008 to one of the two aforementioned females."

That is how read it too but I guess it is slightly unclear. Jordan seems to be familiar with this collection and think he is probably aware that the third rhino is not of breeding age yet.
