South Lakes Wild Animal Park South Lakes 2011 news

far be it for me to defend jordan-12, but when he wrote "2 of the 3 female White Rhinos are also expecting the third is from one of the females born in 2008" what I think he actually meant was (with a bit of editing):
"Two of the three female White Rhinos are also expecting. The third White Rhino (i.e. the one that isn't pregnant) is a calf born in 2008 to one of the two aforementioned females."

Just what I was thinking - I never read that as all three rhinos were pregnant. When he says 2 of 3 are pregnant, the 3rd is the 2008 female, I see that as clear enough.

In fact, I see that as Jordan defending why SL haven't got all three pregnant - because the female is still too young (if that makes sense :s)

I read it that way too, though if Jordan12 can try to make some of his posts just a little clearer it wouldn't lead to any of these misunderstandings.

There are now 6 European White Stork chicks, more Red and Grey Kangaroo's poping out of the pouch, and more Lemur births!Nyala the young female White Rhino has been alocated a location to move to next year,Zimba has not as yet.A new female White Rhino should arrive next year too.

I'm sure they said Nancy died around Christmas when they were doin the monkey and ape talk. Does anyone know if this has ever happened before where the male has taken on rearing duties after the female has died?

Walda didn't go to Longleat. He stayed at SL until his departure to Ireland earlier this year and Longleat's new bull (for whatever reason) ended up being from Woburn.

Notes from today's visit:

1) only two female Black Howlers at the park now.
2) The female Bears are starting to mature enough to breed, Snoopy the male was showing a lot of intreats in one of the females following her every move.
3)Only three Paca now, last years offspring has left.
4)there is A crate in the Lion house maybe moving Kadi?
5)there is work going on behind the Lion area maybe the expansion is beginning.

1) They said when i went in June that they were looking to get a new male in the next year or so.
4) That crate has been in the Lion House for a while..may be the crate one of the original lions came in
5) If by work you mean the digger with a mound of dirt then thats been there a while too so i wouldn't get your hopes up about any expansion starting

You manage to find anything out about the rhino pregnancies and any moves in or out of the park?

1) The park's facebook page suggests the other spider monkeys are still there. Maybe the 2 new females were out exploring and the rest of the group were indoors.

I knew there was some crate(s)in the Lion house but there was a new one.

When the Black Howlers originally arrived in 2010 I saw 1:4?

The new Spider Monkeys were indoors and the original group were outdoors.

They park know Ntombi the Rhino is pregnant unsure on anymore.
