It seems that Alisha the Sumatran tiger has passed away. She swallowed a lump of meat which chocked her in seconds :( :(

I think the big building could be the new house in the extension area for African hoofstock.

I *meant* the fact that Gill mixes predator and prey animals, not anything to do with the tragic incident earlier this year.

But to avoid any further confusion, will scrub the pertinent posts :) my apologies for the confusion resulting from my ill-judged comment.

South Lakes received some new species recently, namely allmost the entire bird collection of Apenheul, primate park. Their Amazonia aviary which kept cattle egret, night herons, guan, mexican stilts, whistling ducks & red shouldered teal, is now being turned into a new monkey enclosure and all its residents are moved tot South Lakes.

and where are the snow leopards currently held.

thanks i know its a lot to ask!;)

South Lakes only have the one Tiger species now (Sumatran) The final Amur female died in 2013 and there are no current plans to replace her. Can't help with any of your other questions, sorry

Yes, snow leopards and lions are sharing. I believe that there are plans to move the lions into a new enclosure on the new site.

This message just appeared on the Facebook group:

"2014 is going to be the most exciting year since 1994 when I first built the zoo from an empty field of grass. three times larger, new branding and name, new very unique enclosures and experiences... if you want to feed a Snow Leopard, Jaguar , Lion or Tiger by hand yourself .... you can in 2014 Starting after Easter . Of course all the regular favourites will still be there to do and a number of new family or individual experience packages. Just watch this page for the dates and prices when they are launched "

Sounds interesting... and I wonder, how on earth do you hand feed a Snow Leopard, Jaguar, Lion or Tiger :o

On the subject of his Facebook posts! I can't believe what he posts on the page tbh, imagine if all other businesses posted similar rants... Very unprofessional and the fact he deletes comments he doesn't like, makes it all the worse!

hi,
i'm really new to the forum (my first post) but thought i'd pop up in here because i go to south lakes a lot as it is the closest zoo to me - and coz i adore giraffes its nice to go and spend time with them - anyway ... i thought you'd all be interested to know that there are TWO definite pregnancies with one expected due in 6-8 weeks and another suspected pregnancy which they are waiting to test. if all is correct and everything goes well it will be lovely to see some new babies and of course the main celebration will be adding to the species numbers!! :)
