Found an article about South lakes
visitor numbers up by 5'000
new exhibits for next year are the "hippo mangrove" and flamingoes
A second white rhino born, a male this time.

I wonder if it is common hippos being brought in or the existing pygmys?

Wouldn't have thought they had the space for common hippos! It's probably the pygmys that are moving. Last time I was there, one of them was chasing the male mandrill!
 
They are moving the pygmy's to an enclosure right at the entrance, it looks bigger and more 'lush' than their current enclosure. I think the mandrills are going with them, when I visited a few weeks ago they left each other completely alone

“They’re in quarantine just now.” Is David Gill Talking about the Flamingoses or Hippos? I dont see why they would move the Mandrills & Pygmy Hippos, the hippo house was quite new when I last visited, however I must admit the Indoor bit for Mandrills did need updating.
 
I think he's talking about the flamingos as they don't have any at present, it may also be more hippos but the pygmys are definately moving to a new enclosure, it looked pretty much finished when I was there but obviously not yet ready for hippos and possibly mandrills

Thanks, I would of thought we had enough spare in this country to source. :confused:

Do we know what is going to go in the old enclosure if the mandrills move aswell?
 
Maybe they are just going to do it up for the mandrills and leave them there. Thinking about it I can't picture any climbing frames or decent sized trees in the new enclosure and the keeper only mentioned the hippos moving

Hmmm...well the enclosure the Mandrills are in has not got any of those things, unless they have improved things recently.

I hope they do move just the Hippos out, although its an interesting mixed I dont feel it benefits either species.
 
The Pygmy Hippos and Mandrills are moving to what use to be the Cheetah enclosure and then according to the map in the guide book Brown Capuchins and Capybara are moving into their old enclosure,

Thanks Zoogiraffe for information about what species will be housed in the old enclosure, I gathered they were going into the old cheetah enclosure.

I thought of this, but was just trying to get to the bottom of it was the hippos or flamingoes that were in qurrantine like the article said.

There is a basic climbing frame with ropes in the hippo/mandrill enclosure, nothing adequate though
