On May 31st, the zoo posted a map of all the births that have happened in the 2021 season, which newly includes 3 warthogs, aoudad, emu, white-handed gibbon, black-tailed prairie dog, and pot-bellied pig.

On June 5th, the zoo announced the birth of its first Wolf's guenon to be born at Southwick. The baby (no gender given) was born between the night of May 28th, to the morning of May 29th.

On June 18th, the zoo announced that they have acquired a 3-week-old male Jacobs sheep named Panda, and is being raised by the zoo's education team. Panda will be out on exhibit at a later date.

On July 18th, the zoo announced some more babies, including red kangaroo, Reeve's muntjac, Silka deer, fallow deer, and American elk.

On August 9th, the zoo announced that a baby (0.1) reticulated giraffe was born 2 weeks prior. Her name is Dolly and was 6 feet tall right after birth, making her the tallest giraffe to be born at the zoo.

On September 2nd, the zoo announced that 4 baby pot-bellied pigs were born and are now on exhibit.

On September 17th, the zoo announced that their (1.0) albino Burmese python named Banana passed away unexpectedly on September 6th.

On October 18th, the zoo announced that their (1.1) sloths have a new indoor habitat in the Reptile, Amphibian, and Invertebrate House.

On January 6th, 2022, the zoo announced that a (0.1) common chimpanzee named Jingles has passed away due to natural causes at the age of 52.

On March 9th, 2023, the zoo announced that a (0.1) Brazillian tapir named Tutula was born on January 4th.

The zoo opened up with pre-season hours today and while visiting, I saw that Mowgli’s (the leopard that passed away late last year) old enclosure there is now a pair of snow leopards!

In addition to the new snow leopards, there are also has a six banded armadillo. The zoo also no longer has Vicuna which is a huge loss.

I'd be curious to know where these snow leopards came from. Outside of the AZA, big cats often come from questionable sources, and while I'm not aware of Southwicks having a history of dealing with the worst of the worst, I'd still be interested in knowing where these snow leopards came from. Hopefully it's somewhere at least somewhat reputable (i.e. I know Tanganyika breeds them).

It's probably Tanganyika. A lot of places have been getting the species from there.
