This is a unique opportunity to meet Andrew Owen, Chester Zoo’s curator of birds. Andrew is a renown expert in the field and maintains the ESB for the Sumatran laughingthrush, so we’re delighted to be able to offer ZooChat members the chance to join him in a tour of some of Chester’s bird exhibits and to learn more about the current species plan.
Chester’s fascinating bird collection has undergone significant changes in recent years as old exhibits such as the circular aviaries and bird corridor have been removed, and exciting new additions such as the Tsavo African Bird Safari have been introduced. Andrew will discuss how these changes have impacted the collection, and will answer questions about future developments, such as the next phase of Islands in Danger.
Lunch will be in Chester Zoo’s staff canteen, located above the Fountain Shop.
The event, which is free and exclusive to ZooChat members, gets underway outside the Guest Services Pavillion (inside the zoo’s main entrance) at 10:30am on Saturday, 11th December 2010.
Places are strictly limited to a maximum of twenty on a first-come, first-served basis. Please send me a PM - remembering to include your real name and whether you will be eating lunch - to reserve your place. There will be a waiting list for places when the first twenty are taken.
Note that although the event itself is free, normal zoo admission applies and anything purchased from the staff canteen is also an extra charge. Children must be accompanied by an adult, they and carers are also considered to be a second attendee. The time the event ends may vary, so please keep that in mind when making travel arrangements or letting parents/guardians know where you are.
