I was most impressed with the layout and range of species when I visited in summer. Aviaries can be a little difficult to view through the mesh + sunshine however. Interesting that there were no psittacines which you would expect as a staple in most bird collections.

It does have a good range of species (with several additional ones off-show). Most of the on-show aviaries contain a ground-dwelling species, another which frequents the lower bushes, and another which favours the higher canopy.

Although the structure itself looks great in the sunshine, a bright overcast day is definitely better for viewing the aviary interiors and occupants - I sometimes found myself waiting for a strategically-positioned cloud when I was photographing the birds themselves.

Historically, parrots did once form a major part of the collection (source: keeper talk).
