Ponderosa Zoo Species List

There is very little information about this qaint but interesting collection, so I thought I'd go to the effort of listing the species kept, for those who are interested.

The Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre is a therapeutic centre based in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire which keeps it's very own collection of animals.

If memory serves, the centre started life as a rare breeds farm which went by the name of "The Ponderosa Rare Breeds Farm" for quite some time, until recent years when it got renamed.

Here is the current species list according to their website. I'm not sure how up-to-date this is, so any outside input is welcomed and encouraged:

Current Holdings:

Cockatiel
Blue-and-yellow Macaw
Military Macaw
Southern Boobook
Scops-owl
Harris Hawk
Barn Owl
Catfish
Welsh Cob
Donkey
Dales Pony
Pygmy Goat
Highland Cattle
Llama
Sikha Deer
Soay Lamb
Meerkats
Minature Pigs
Common Marmoset
Ring-tailed Lemur
Brown Lemur
African Crested Porcupine
Reindeer
Skunk
South American Tapir
African Pygmy Hedgehog
Leopard Gecko
Ball Python
Bearded Dragon
Blue-Tongued Skink
Chameleon
Chilean Rose Tarantula
Crab
Cuban Knight Anole
Iguana
Marine Toad
Tortoise
Terrapin

Some of these animals don't have their specific species stated, like the chameleon, terrapins and tortoise, for example, so if anybody knows of their exact species, do tell and I will update the list.

Former Holdings:

Wallaby
Emu
Water Buffalo

(if anybody knows of their species, please inform)

I'm pretty sure at one point they kept a crocodile of some kind, but I can't for the life of me remember what species. This is going back some 5-6 years at the very least. Can anyone validate me on this?

Water buffalo were held here some years ago.

According to a local newspaper, Red-necked wallaby, Patagonian Cavy and Big hairy armadillo have been introduced to the collection.

Visited today, Tapir, Skunk, Porcupine, Palm Civet and Brown Lemur have now left the collection. Species added since I was last there - Coati, Black and White Ruffed Lemur, Otters, Mara, Lesser Hairy Armadillos, Raccoon Dogs, Tri-Coloured Squirrels and Sugar Gliders.
