Species no longer held/nearly gone from US zoos

I recall a large swine collection from my 2012 visit and was wondering if the Bearded pigs were also there at that time, but I guess not. In 2014, I noticed a decrease in the collection. Its a shame that suids are yet another group that is losing in diversity kept, especially given how endangered the Southeast Asian species are.

I'm following that thread. It seems Lupa Zoo never had Hamlyn's Monkey, it was a mix up because of the common name Owl Monkey; the ones at Lupa are and always were actually Night Monkeys (Aotus).

King Colobus is listed as a question mark for Treasure Park. Hopefully someone else can post more info on that one either here or that thread.

I'm pretty sure they just haven't updated their ZIMS. They haven't had margay on their USDA inspections in years, the species isn't on their website, hasn't been on their social media in years, etc.

If you mean Living Treasures, I've been to both parks and they definitely do not have King Colobus.

Edit: Looked it up, it's Keystone Safari with the USDA listing, not Living Treasures (the two LTs are separate, one of them also owns Keystone). They have regular Guerzera.

Checked my master lists - I indeed have the kite, I forgot about it, too many species on that one. :p
Far as the Hoopoe, I have Bronx with a question mark as I still have no recent confirmation since the start of the thread. @ThylacineAlive or someone with ZIMS possibly able to check this?

Unless someone actually saw those species in US zoos within the last 3 decades or has concrete proof they were indeed around, I'll assume they never were in captivity here within that period.

Is it lack of intrest or are there other reasons why this species is not kept anymore because in Europe the species still is doing well in the small number of collections working with it ( 14 collections in total ).

It was held by Minnesota until only a month or two ago. Believe it's been posted several times that the remaining animals lived off-exhibit.

Likely a combination of too little commitment and too few founders to sustain a population.

Are there still Gunther's Dik-dik at Cameron Park Zoo in Waco? They are listed on their website, but they don't look like the type to update it very much...
 
Quite a few more historic additions to add to the GONE list, with a couple of question marks, after some research (most of which led me back to zoochat haha). Most of these were San Diego species:

European Wildcat
I think the last one was in San Diego a while back.

Asian Golden Cat?
At San Diego in the 90s/early 00s?

Yellow-throated Marten
Another 90s San Diego animal.

Western Tarsier
Last individual died at the Cleveland Zoo in the 2000's.

Topi/Korrigum
Present in several facilities like San Diego back in the day. Last individual was at San Antonio Zoo I believe less than 10 years ago.

Oribi
At San Diego in the 90s. Possibly other places as well.

Nilgiri Tahr
At San Diego in the 90s. Possibly still present on hunting game farms, but not sure and even if they are, don't know if they are viewable to public.

Pampas Deer
Yet another 90s San Diego ungulate no longer here. SDs ungulate collection as good as it is, is nothing but a shell of its former self.

Red-headed Vulture?
Last one here was off-exhibit at Palm Beach Zoo a good few years ago but is no longer there. I assume it passed away? Can anyone confirm its status.

A 2014 AZA ungulate tag publication listed two, so less than eight years ago. That guide mentioned a desire to import more in the future, but listed them as phase out for the time being since there wasn’t a proper base of founders.

Tahr are still around in small numbers, but lots of them aren't really easy to visit.
