Im starting this thread because i am curious to see what species of animals people on here wish they could see in any U.S. collection

So please feel free to leave any responses and ill tell u my "wishlist" after i look through my field guides or refernce books ect

There have been quite a few similar threads, but I enjoy this sort of thing so here goes my list:
(bear in mind, reality has been thrown out the window for my list)

First, I'll start with animals that aren't displayed anywhere (that I know of):

Javan rhinoceros
mountain nyala
tamaraw
saola
huemel
Kirk's red colobus
giant pangolin
dingiso
tenkile

Now for things that exist in other captive collection, but not found in the US

proboscis monkey
saiga (saw these in SD before, great animals!)
pygmy hog
eastern gorilla
philippine spotted deer
greater bilby
platypus
Doria's tree kangaroo

That's all I've got off the top of my head for now. Enjoy.

Giant Armadillo
Leopard Seal
Platypus
Saiga
Tibetian Antelope
Golden Monkey
Cuban Solenodon
Marine Iguana
Amazon River Dolphin
and Im sure there are plenty more...

mammal wise i would like:
Greater Bilby
Squirrel Glider
Spotted Cuscus
Dusky Pademelon
Grizzled Gray Tree Kangaroo
Spectacled Flying Fox
Hammer-headed Bat
Tear-Drop Fruit Bat
Cream Coloured Giant Squirrel
Minnie Downs Mouse

Proboscis Monkey
Zebra Duiker

will post a bird list later

There are Spotted Cuscus (Columbus) and Harp Seals (Sea World Orlando) in the US, i do believe. And i know National used to have Hammerhead Bats. Im not sure if they still do.

My list in progress :D

South China Tiger
Grizzled grey tree kangaroo
Tarsier
Yellow-throated marten
Proboscis monkey
Russian saiga
Amazon river dolphin
Jackals
Asian Lion
Zebra Duiker
Hunter's Antelope
Spanish Lynx
Countless Australian species

Columbus' Ground Cuscus had to be euthanized a few years back. I think we are in the works of acquiring more rare species because after he died we only had Prevosts Squirrel, a single common tree shrew, and two Greater Chevrotains in the first exhibit in the Nocturnal House. Since then one chevrotain has died and the other was moved to Central Park so right now there are two Prevosts Squirrels and One Tree Shrew in the exhibit. I'd like to see another rare species! (considering the other ones in the nocturnal house - quoll, kiwi, civet)

How long ago were Yellow Throated Martens and Proboscis Monkeys phased out of US zoos because I definitely remember martens at SDZoo and Proboscis at the Bronx.

Birdman7487: The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA has Dusky Pademelons. I have some pics in the gallery. I think they have a pair, but I'm not sure.

I've always liked this type of threads. Here is my list:

Golden Snub-nosed Monkey
Proboscis Monkey
Asian Lion
Black-shanked Douc Langur
Zebra Duiker
Jentink's Duiker
Amazon River Dolphins
Bilbies
Saiga
Mountain Gorillas
Javan Rhinos
Platypus
and many more.

Thought of some more:

Brown Hyena
Ethiopian Wolf
Javan Rhino
Mountain Gorilla
Eastern Lowland Gorilla
Snub-nosed monkey
Black Muntjac
Oribi
Chamois (still still left at Toronto Zoo but after that, I believe they'll be on the extinct list unless some exist in a private collections)
Temminick's Golden Cat (only one exists in Mountain View Conservation Centre)
Sumatran Rabbit
Marine Iguana

Oh, I thought of another, I don't suppose these exist in captivity anywhere though. Large-antlered muntjac
