Species you'd like to see in the UK?

aren't there still a couple of trained lappet-faced vultures still in the UK? There was one at yorkshire dales, and I'm pretty sure another centre currently has one.

Yes they do have a Sifaka, and along with port lympne, is the only one in europe
Sifakas are kept at Belfast,Cotswold Wildife Park and Port Lympne in the U.K,as for Europe they are also kept at Mulhouse,Paris and Alpenhaul and i`m sure i`ve missed some other European collections so their is quite a few about!!!!!!!!!!

You've pretty much covered the ISIS-listed collections, with the exception of Museum de Besancon. I'm positive there are other collections with sifaka in Europe but I'm damned if I can remember where right now... I'll try and remember to do a search later.

edit: All the ISIS-listed EU collections house Verreaux's sifaka

In the latest edition of ZSL's fairly awful "Wild About" magazine there is an advert for Battersea Park zoo. Pictured are a pig, a pony, some meerkats, a creepily perfect-looking family and... a sifaka. Please tell me they haven't got one or more there...

Their website only lists B&W ruffed and ring tail lemurs...

Indeed, Battersea don't have sifaka. Unless it's a new arrival or I'm very much mistaken. Or it happened to be passing by and relented to being part of a photo shoot. It happens...

The highest probability is that whilst designing the advert, they used a stock lemur image (which just happened to be a Sifaka) to represent their two current species.

Have a read of the thread "Polar Bears at Whipsnade" for further info. Mandy, the polar bear at Flamingoland died about 5 years ago.

Cat-man....you actually live in the same county as the only polar bear in England....it's in a private zoo in Heythrop.

One of the London Koalas died from a tumour so they sent the other one away. I think the London polar bears were sent to Dudley (pipiluk and mosha??), and were later sent by Dudley to Katowice zoo in poland in 1989.

Yes, I know about the Polar Bear at Hythrope, if only jim Club would open it to the Public.

What About the ones from Chester, czjimmy do you know this, and where did chester Tazmanian Devils go to

The only Tasmanian Devil I know of at Chester was kept in 1934.

Polar Bears were exhibited at Chester Zoo from 1933 to 1992, though for a short time in 1947, 1980 and 1984 there were no polar bears in the zoo.

The first polar bear was a male called Punch who arrived in 1933. He was joined by a female called Judy who arrived in 1940 from the Butlins Holiday Camp in Skegness. Both these bears died in 1947.

0.2 Rack and Ruin came from Antwerp Zoo in 1947, Rack died 1979 and Ruin in 1980 both from old age. Ruin died aged 35, which at the time was a joint longevity record for captive polar bears

1.0 Rubble came from Brussels Zoo in 1950, and died 1977 from age-related cardiovascular disease

1.0 Motty born 3rd December 1959 at Chester, (died 1977). Two other litters of polar bears were born at Chester, 2 cubs in 1965 and 1 in 1967, none of these were reared.

1.1 Nanook and Nija arrived from Copenhagen Zoo in 1980, Nija drowned in 1981, Nanook died in 1983

0.1 Twinkle arrived from Toronto Zoo in 1982 to replace Nija, she died in 1984

1.1 Amos and Sabrina arrived from Whipsnade in 1984. Amos was put down in 1989 as he was suffering from kidney failure and Sabrina was put down in 1992, she had ovarian cancer.

One of them came from Butlins...?

I don't know, I was asking Bongorob myself! It must have though, unless they just had the cub, and then when it grew up they sent it on to a zoo.
