Thank you for solving the last piece of my puzzle @Mr Gharial; I have decided to settle on Grammostola pulchripes, since they’re decently common in the American pet trade (at least, on MorphMarket, that is).
Some birds that might not be suitable for same type of mixed species/walkthrough aviaries, but would be excellent additions to a bird park include Red-footed falcon, Gyrfalcon, Steller's sea eagle, White-tailed eagle, Great gray owl, Northern hawk-owl, Ural owl, Eurasian eagle-owl, Snowy owl and Eurasian pygmy-owl (I know some of these can work in certain mixed species/walkthrough aviaries, but I still wouldn't shove even those in the same aviaries as your current species). Additionally, Black grouse and Western capercaillie might be more applicable to your pre-existing aviaries, though I'm not sure how would they do in a walkthrough environment.Ideas for a Siberia area in a bird park? (Non-birds are also welcome)
I already have an huge walkthrough aviary housing Siberian Musk Deer, Eurasian Goldeneye, Baikal Teal, Red-breasted Goose, Lesser White-fronted Goose, Common Merganser, Grey Partridge, Oriental Turtle Dove, Siberian Crane, Pied Avociet, Eurasian Curlew, European Spoonbill, Little Bittern, Mistle Thrush and Bohemian Waxwing and a smaller aviary housing Harlequin Duck, Greater Scaup, Smew, Black-necked Grebe, Eurasian Golden Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Ruff, Whimbrel, Black-tailed Godwit, White Wagtail, Azure Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Bearded Reedling, Brambling and Bohemian Waxwing again
I’m looking for some South African species for invertebrates for a EU spec. zoo. What would be some options? Preferably insects or arachnids.
Is it feasible enough to have Swift Foxes (Vulpes velox) for a Canadian-based facility?
Chacalacas & guans aren't the best at flying "beautifely" so ground to perch flights would be best. Motmots are short-hop flyers. Oropendolas would be hard to train but would work. Cuckoos are weak fliers. I would only have the oropendola, cuckoo, and maybe chacalacasWould chachalacas, guans, Blue-crowned Motmots, Green and Crested Oropendolas and Guira Cuckoos work in a flight show?
Some ideas are:Ideas for a parrot house inspired by Praha‘s Rakos House.
There would be walkthrough sections and a room with non-walkthrough aviaries which have outdoor areas. Every aviary has its own geographical theme.
I already have the following aviaries:
No-walkthrough
Misool: Misool Wattled Brush-turkey (not realistic, I know, but for this project rarities like this species are planned), Lesser Palm Cockatoo
Maluku Islands: Green Junglefowl, Buru King Parrot, Grand Eclectus Parrot, Salmon-crested Cockatoo
Palawan: Palawan Peacock-pheasant, Philippine Cockatoo
Jamaica: Crested Quail Dove, White-crowned Pigeon, Yellow-billed Amazon, Black-billed Amazon
New Caledonia: Pacific Imperial Pigeon, Kagu, Horned Parrot, Deplance‘s Lorikeet
walkthrough
Capertee Valley: Wonga Pigeon, Peaceful Dove, Swift Parrot, Turquoise Parrot, Musk Lorikeet, Little Lorikeet, Diamond Firetail, Red-browed Finch, Plum-headed Finch, Australian Zebra Finch, Double-barred Finch
I would welcome ideas for birds, tortoises, small mammals (rodents etc) and new aviary themes
Spinifex Hopping Mice aren't found anywhere near the Capertee Valley. For the capertee valey, maybe have an adjacent spinifex hopping mouse enclosure
An idea for the Capertee Valley is Regent Honeyeater, a critically endangered species for which the Capertee is a regular release site. For non-birds, Long-nosed Potoroo could work for this aviary.walkthrough
Capertee Valley: Wonga Pigeon, Peaceful Dove, Swift Parrot, Turquoise Parrot, Musk Lorikeet, Little Lorikeet, Diamond Firetail, Red-browed Finch, Plum-headed Finch, Australian Zebra Finch, Double-barred Finch
Coincidentally, I'm also making a Silk Routes exhibit for my Las Vegas Zoo. Here are ideasI'm designing two areas for a smaller side spec zoo of mine based in Canada. The areas are based around the land-based and sea-based Silk Roads (former covering species from China to southeastern Europe, with stops in the 'stans and the Middle East; latter ranging from Indonesia/Southeast Asia, through India and North Africa, and into the Mediterranean). Any ideas of species which are either present in Canadian captivity or would be feasibly acquired by a Canadian facility?
I'm also looking for arid-adapted amphibians from the following places;I'm going back to my Las Vegas spec zoo so I have a couple of questions for the maritime building (focusing on Silk road maritime routes). I need non-marine mammals from the following places (realistic for AZA). They should have some level of arid-adaptability;
- Mediterranean islands
- Arabian islands (ie. Socotra)
- East Africa coast (other than blue duikers)
- Indian islands like Sri Lanka
- Southeast Asian mangroves
- Southeast Asian islands
