On July 1st, the zoo announced they have temporarily acquired (
0.1.1) American black bears named Tiny and Winnie, as well as a (
1.0) mountain lion named Rocky from the Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo, New Mexico due to exhibit renovations.

On July 9th, it was reported that one of the American black bears, Winnie, found a hole in the chain-link fence which she used to escape her temporary enclosure. Winnie climbed on top of her exhibit, where she was safely removed and put back inside her enclosure.

On September 7th, it was reported that the USDA has cited the zoo for several animal welfare violations, due to an investigation by PETA. One citation is of a longhorn steer who has overgrown hooves and the zoo has not been able to groom said steer in a significant amount of time. The steer is now in private hands.

On September 15th, it was announced that the mountain lion and American black bears have been transferred back to the Alameda Park Zoo.

On November 20th, it was reported that renovations of the zoo pond have been completed and the pond will be available for people to fish and enjoy some time in 2022.

On December 13th, it was reported that the oldest horse from the zoo's carousel has been restored and is now on display at the Roswell Public Library.

On December 15th, the zoo announced that they have acquired (
3.0) capybara from Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium, and Safari Park in Maricopa County, Arizona.
