Birth of 2 Cotton-top Tamarins on Oct. 9th.
St. Augustine Alligator Farm on Instagram: "On October 9, two of our cotton-top tamarins, Catalina and Pablo, became first-time parents! The babies can be seen in their habitat, riding on their parents' backs. Now that they are over a month old, they are starting to venture off for short explorations. Sex has not been determined yet, so right now, they’re just known as absolutely adorable. Cotton-top tamarins are critically endangered, so babies are definitely a reason to celebrate! Twin pregnancies are typical for this type of monkey. Pregnancies are usually around 5 months long, with females cycling soon after birth – they can become pregnant as soon as six weeks after giving birth. Parenting is a group effort with cotton-top tamarins. Siblings will help their parents raise new offspring, which in turn helps them become successful parents in the future. No, that is one of the 3 species of crocodilian that they're missing. The other two are the central african slender snouted crocodile (M. leptorhyncus) and the northern New Guinea crocodile (C. novaeguineae). I have been told that they have O. tetraspis behind the scenes and that the pair of dwarf crocodiles on exhibit is the third, most recently split species, despite being signed as tetraspis.

* Worth mentioning that a hooded vulture hatched sometime in 2024. It's also worth mentioning that the zoo renovated the Jungle Photo Hut in December 2024.
