I wonder, who has already seen this movie? I really am a huge trek-fan, and I'm planning to see it very soon. It recieves many good critics, and I read something about the plot, and it will be shocking to a lot of trekkies, because something very drastic will happen caused by time travel, and it really alteres the timeline ( and it will not be repaired). I wont reveal it here, I don't want to spoil anyones fun.
 
I'm not a Star Trek fan but I saw this yesterday with my fiance. The movie felt short and I think it's because there was only one plot line and it followed it directly. So and so gets in pod, so and so lands, so and so finds way back, then so and so is on the ship. Ship action, etc. There's no cutting to other scenes or the like. It was annoying for me.

No problem. I will admit, it keeps you entertained for the full 2 hours and however many minutes. However, the lack of a sub-plot to anything frustrated me and left me feeling unfulfilled entirely.

Would be great on cable or DVD though lol.
 
I saw it last Thursday when it was released. And I enjoyed it.

If you are a fan of the original series then I think you'll enjoy it, as it stays true to the original history somewhat (Cpt. Pike etc.). It does, however, create an alternate timeline. And it destroys something which normally would not have been destroyed in a TV series.

But I really enjoyed it, despite having some major reservations.

I just read a review, and to be honest, I was shocked ( and really intriged). It just comes down to scrapping the next generation, DS9 and voyager, not to mention a lot of trek movies, who comes up with such an idea? And what impact would it have on the fictional world of star trek? Can the federation still be seen as a galactic superpower after such an event ( couldn't help wondering about that;))
 
I've got no idea what you're talking about Johnny. It doesn't 'scrap' TNG, DS9 or Voyager. It simply creates an alternate timeline. And I can't see how it would be severely detrimental to the Federation.

I suggest you see the movie and then make up your own mind.

Saw it on sunday, I thought it was decent. I personally just think although it had action it wasn't emphasized in the right way. That's just my opinion.
 
@Zooplantman: I haven't watched the latest Star Trek movie, and was never a fan of the franchise, but in this scenario I'd rather recommend it; it can't be worse than the "Wolverine" movie...

that Gavin Hood might do a good job in directing XMOW. Therefore, the disappointment was only deepened...
From what I heard and read so far, "Star Trek" seems to be the better choice. Or you can rent a good DVD instead. Ever watched "Tsotsi"? ;)
 
Star Trek was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Lost of action great FX.
Definatley a big screen movie.

What part did Wyonia Rider play???

Interesting as of tommorow it will cost $17.00 for adult entry.
It was 100 Peso about $3 australian in the phillipaines.

How is this comparing with the rest of the world?

Never saw Tsotsi, although it looks great and I know I'd love the soundtrack.

Anyway, too much arguing with architects by day and sitting home with DVDs on weekends! Time to get out. Star Trek it shall be. :D

It isn't so hard to know what I am talking about ;) I'm planning to see the movie very soon ( although wolverine is first on the agenda, because my brother really wants to see this one), so I can't say anything about the movie at this moment. But since I know the major events I wonder what effect it would have on the star trek timeline. I can't explain much about what I said without telling too much about the plot, but it's obvious what I meant. Perhaps I better ask it like this; what do you think will be the effects on the alternative timeline, especially for the 24th century?;)

Here it's EUR 8,50. I believe an euro does aproximately 1,30 in american dollars, I don't know how much it is compared to the australian dollar.

My best friend went to see it in the isle of Manhattan--$14.00 (USD)





We (as in me and my fiance) paid $6.75 in Cincinnati, OH. But--to be fair--it was the indie theater that has a matinee special price (which is what we paid). It would usually be $9.00 there & 10.50 at the AMC.
 
I liked it, with a few reservations. I recommend IMAX. I'm old enough to have watched the original, and have been to many midnight showings of the movies as they came out.
Winona RYder plays Spock's mom.

There'll be less Vulcans in Starfleet.
Relations with the Romulans will improve somewhat.
