Staten Island Zoo Staten Island Zoo news

The zoo's Facebook states that African Crested Porcupines have taken up residence in the old leopard exhibit in the Africa building, which suggests that the leopards have moved out of their old habitat, further implying that the new exhibit for the cats will open soon.
The zoo has also successfully raised enough money for a single cassowary, and are still petitioning for a pair of the big birds.

It's great to see the zoo open a fantastic, new outdoor leopard exhibit after their former leopards lived in that tiny indoor display for so long.
The zoo has also acquired enough money for a single Double-Wattled Cassowary, and the zoo has plans to acquire Dwarf Crocodiles soon (according to Facebook, they might also be hatchlings.)

The cassowary fundraiser was completed with $12,500 raised through private donations. A young female cassowary that hatched earlier this year in the Cassowary Conservation Fund in Florida will come to the zoo in spring.
There are also several positive sightings of Helena, the missing Red Fox, in the Randall Manor, New Brighton, and West Brighton areas.

I just went yesterday but since my computer is old and backed up it won't upload photos but here are some things I noticed:
fossa moved to South American Rainforest(really annoying)
old fossa exhibit contains klipspringer pair and sculta tortoises
now have some black howler monkies (really nice specimens)
kinkajou is gone:confused:
old kinkajou exhibit has their Cotton-Top and Geoffery's Marmosets
King Vultures are gone:confused:
old King Vulture exhibit houses Binturong and Prevost's Squirrel

A juvenile Coscorosba Swan has gone on exhibit, giving Staten Island each species of swan from the Southern Hemisphere.
