I knee replacement surgery 2 weeks ago. !
I have not been posting or checking ZooChat for a bit. Big changes for me--I have essentially retired from the FW Children's Zoo and had knee replacement surgery 2 weeks ago. I'll still be in touch and involved with the zoo, just not as day-to-day as I have been!
I'm sure you'll let us know as soon as those Tasmanian devils happen, right?![]()
It was a feature story on the 6pm news the other nite that the Australian government is in the process of selecting a One or more zoos in the US to assist with insurance captive population of the Tassie Devil.
San Diego probably will. Hopefully, Bronx as well but the whole climate thing might be an issue.

I heard that the Toronto Zoo is also planning on getting devils again. Maybe some will go there.
And Rookeyper, I hope you have a fast recovery and feel better soon.
The main problem with having Tasmanian devils in Toronto again would be providing them with a place to live. While the Australasia Pavilion used to have quite a sizeable portion as their exhibit/holding area, this is now taken over as an exhibit that is inhabited by several species who were displaced when Edge of Night became the Great Barrier Reef exhibit. While I suppose they could live in the tree kangaroo exhibit (if the tree kangaroos moved into the mixed exhibit with some modifications), the amount of holding space/exhibit capacity for all parties would probably be non-viable. Thus, I personally see the future of Tasmanian devils in Toronto unlikely, but stranger things have happened!
