Storks, Hamerkop, and Shoebill in North America

Just come across this thread, but a couple to add:

Kansas City has Yellow Billed Stork
Omaha, Topeka, and the Lincoln's Children's Zoo all have Hammerkop

I wonder if Miami's birds will go to the Bronx as well since they're the only sizable flock left in the US? It's a shame so few AZA institutions are keeping the rarer stork species. Anyone know species are being planned to be kept in the AZA long-term like how so many hoofstock species in AZA Ungulates program are as of this year chosen to be phased out? I'm assuming that Marabous, Abdim's and White Storks will stay, Yellowbills and Saddlebills will be a monitored ssp and hopefully more facilities will hold Milky's once the numbers grow/more are imported to the US for the SSP. They can get more from Prague or Cologne. I bet once the Black Necked's die off AZA likely won't be replacing them. Species I'd like to see more done with in AZA are Lesser Adjutants and African Openbills. If anyone wants to see Yellowbills Jacksonville is definitely the place to be!

I don't think Bronx has room for more Painted Storks, as it is their current numbers have been split between three different areas of the zoo. Part of the reason Painted is being phased-out is in favor or trying to grow the more endangered Milky Stork population, though at the moment the two populations are pretty equal in size.

I believe it's been some time since Bronx last bred their Lesser Adjutant, and I fear lack of interest from other zoos has made them decide to end the program.

So their Lesser Adjutant program is officially ending? Maybe the birds can be moved to Racine to induce breeding there as a larger group like how San Diego has all the Milky's. Bronx used to be really good at breeding them even sending offspring to Paignton in the UK. What parts of the zoo other than Jungle world have the Painted's been moved to? Aquatic Bird House? I haven't been to the Bronx Zoo yet.

Catoctin Zoo may hold marabous and Abdim's storks, I'd need someone to confirm though.

Bronx bred lesser adjutant in both 2015 and 2018, so they some relatively recent births. I don’t think they are ending there program as much as sustaining it at current size due to lack of institutional interest and hoping to send out surplus birds to other zoos here or abroad.

No, what I said was pure conjecture. I have no insight into the actual plans the zoo has for their adjutant storks, but I very much hope they continue with them as they are a unique endangered species the zoo has done very well with. The Paignton birds have all since died I believe, unfortunately.

The zoo has Painted Storks in World of Birds and the ABH now as well.

That's good news then! That's what I hope they are doing.

San Antonio no longer has black-necked stork or maguari stork on display. The sign for the black-necked stork has been removed, after being up with the flamingos for a year (never saw the stork though). Saw the black-necked at Miami though last September.

Apparently Hemker Park & Zoo has a few African Openbills somewhere in the park, although I didn’t see any when I was there last September.
EDIT: Hemker also had a single European White Stork in September.

What happened to the remaining Shoebill at the San Diego Safari park? I thought Houston Zoo phased out Shoebills.

I was told it was shipped out, I don't know where to. You're correct about Houston, I forgot to pull that listing.
Anyone know if Houston's died or were sent away, and where SDZ's last one went?

@ThylacineAlive since he reported on Houstons awhile ago.
