I was going to write this review tomorrow afternoon but we arrived back earlier than expected so here goes....
We strated off in the East Africa Reserve the Zebra,Giraffe and Nyala were all out on the reserve. There was no sign of the Bongo's anywere mabey we were just in the wrong place for them? There were 4 zebra and at least 8 Giraffe outside. Skoop102 seemed to think Winston the elderley bull white rhino had died. He hasn't we saw him out in the rhino yard and he looked in good health for an animal his age. Unjarnu the young bull was out with one of the females. The second female was seperated off from the other's no explanation as to why though. Monkey Jungle is still closed off to the public though we could see a couple of monkeys through the fence. A member off staff told me that there were doubts as to whether it will ever re-open. No tapirs outside when we went through. The orix calfs were both out and looked to be loving the sunshine. There looked to be a young vulture up in a nest although I can't be 100% sure it was. No baby flamingo's on show sadly.
Charlie and his females in pride A were out and about in Lion country. In pride B (Kabir's old pride) there were at least 5 lioness's and 4 what looked to be male lions. I wonder if they have bought some new males in and intergrated them with the current pair? It doesn't seem likeley but they couldn't keep 4 boys from the various litters could they?
There was a scrap going on in the tiger area between 2 of the females. The 3rd female was sitting by herself away from the others. There are no current plans for a male tiger I was informed. Some of last years wolf pups were playing in the sun in Wolf Wood.
Nico the Gorilla was chilling out under the shelter of his house. We were told he was in good health at the moment and there they didn't plan to bring in anymore gorilla's till after Nico's death. They have had 3 sealion pups this year. A new female sealion named Leah has recently arrived from Dublin Zoo and is being kept apart from the others until she has settled in and got used to the hippos and boats. Nicola08 wanted to know what had happend to Nancy the Sealion. She is still live and kicking in Half Mile lake
The new Animal Adventure looks like Father Christmas will be dropping in to open it by the time it's finished
. In Pets Corner 4 Otters were out. I thought they had more? Have some been moved on? The new Porcupine area looks alright too. Does anyone know where they came from? There are still 1:2 gefforys marmosets in the current enclosure. They are now a non breeding pair and there last offspring (f) is still living with them for the moment. In the parrot show area a cockatoo was locked up in a large cage round the right side of the public seating area. He/She didn't look or sound happy about it. It was making a lot of noise at the public.
I will add photo's when I get round to it.
