Stupidest Exhibit Ideas Ever

Urban jungle at the San Diego zoo. No other words need to be said
I mean the exhibits are pretty bare but I wouldn’t call any of them stupid.

Fair, Fair, but here’s my opinion. I think the urban jungle is stupid because it’s just a mish-mash of random animals from around the zoo. I just don’t understand why it exists. It wouldn’t be that hard to just demolish it and replace it with something much better, the exhibit was just a bunch of slightly renovated exhibits apart of the elephant Mesa. They could have done soooo much better with the space but they just placed the animals that didn’t have homes at the zoo in these things. The question is why do this. I don’t understand. It’s just a terrible mess.

Other than the giraffes and rhinos, the animals are part of the ambassador programs so they are a mix of animals from around the world. Similar to Columbus but without an overall theme or story lol :D

In both cases the ambassadors deserve much better than they where given, they are both stupid for the soul reason that they are terrible for their inhabitants.

We’ll agree to disagree that they are “terrible” for their inhabitants. They are uninspired but wholly appropriate for the species they hold. If you disagree then there needs to be a larger discussion about animal ambassadors and their accommodations at major zoos because the exhibits for them in Urban Jungle are pretty representative of off show housing for ambassadors. In my professional experience, the animals housed in these settings do very well and are offered more opportunities than most other animals at the zoo.

As much as I despise urban jungle all let it rest for now since it’s already been talked to death here on zoochat

'Antarctic' exhibits for banded penguins are stupid.
Some examples from Russia:
Volgograd Oceanarium (nominated for worst penguin exhibit)

Kazan oceanarium
Anapa penguinarium (no ice, but with mural of Emperor penguins not in their natural habitat)

I am both confused and upset at the same time

I know this thread hasn't been active for more than 6 months but I just felt like this has to be known here.

Now I am not a person who thinks unnatural=bad or natural=obligatory, which is why I don't have hard feelings towards the Scutes family galley or Indiana zoo's orangutan center. But Asahiyama zoo's orangutan indoor exhibit is pretty concerning. Just imagine trying to sit on a wall in a region in long winter. There's also the chance of facing the golden shower. The outdoor exhibit isn't any better. They do have an interesting jungle gym connected to their cage but the apes cannot get on the ground when they go to the jungle gym.

I wouldn't be surprised if anyone here has an aneurism after seeing this enclosure.

Awww, the disco hippo exhibit video is down. I would had loved to see that atrocity with my own eyes.
I believe this video shows off most of the effects intended for Hippo Haven. I understand what they were going for, considering that I would guess that they can't either expand the hippo exhibit or give the hippos outdoor access with the space they're working with, so they figured that some new lighting effects and projections would liven the exhibit up. Unfortunately, it just didn't really work at all, and it's very apparent that the exhibit is near exactly the same, just with funky lighting. Kind of a shame, because if the effects weren't on top of the exhibit, and maybe in adjoining hallways instead, I'd think they were kind of neat.
