Thanks. I know the region is focussing on Sumatrans so this question is just out of curiosity. When Kato First Arrived wasn't it to breed with Sita? Is this still the intention or is Dreamworld going to focus on Sumatran breeding instead.?
When I went to Queensland about a year ago and visited Dreamworld, they were mating Sita and Kato on Tiger Island.
They had Kato on a lead and would use that to help him escape "the swipe" in time and aviod any scratches from Sita.
They said it was not the first time (cycle) they had tried and had so far been unsuccessful.
So I can only assume they have either stop trying, are still trying or were maybe successful with breeding, but not with any possible birth.
To clarify: Samara died of cancer at National Zoo in Canberra about three years ago. She had been implanted while at WPZ and possibly the cause for this particular cancer.
Kato has not bred with Sita. Sita had to undergo an emergency spay as she had a ruptured uterus. Will possibly look at other alternatives for Bengal breeding in the future.
I know! Rama and Sita are so unique in their colours, I've never seen bengals their colour before. It was a very unique litter to have four cubs so different. I wonder why they never bred anymore from their parents between 1998 and 2003 (entering the sumatran tiger breeding programme). They had three tigeresses during thsi time.
