Australia Zoo Sumatran Tiger pregnancy

Yep, big cats are tame until the moment they attack and kill someone. John Aspinall and almost all other zoos learned this lesson decades ago, it seems the Irwins want to learn it the hard way.

Big difference between John Aspinall's tiger program and that at Australia Zoo. Maybe before commenting checking out the manner that they do things would be in order.

There is a better survival rate for cubs in this situation and probably better captive lives than many zoos can provide. They also contribute substantially to tiger conservation.

Kaitlyn has given birth to 1.1 new cubs. Father isn't mentioned but is likely to be Satu (currently on loan from Taronga)

Satu would be the most logical match if these cubs are to have an value to the Australasian breeding programme. Kaitlyn's match with Ramalon seemed foolish, when you consider his line's over representation, however if the intention for that litter was simply for display/conservation ambassador purposes, there's no harm.

If Maneki (2007) is not to be bred, then I'm sure it would be advisable to send her somewhere where she can contribute to the breeding programme. Auckland, Adelaide and Perth Zoo all require the import of a breeding female.

Dreamworld's male, Raja, could also be an option for Maneki's breeding partner. He's only fathered five cubs in the programme (all female) and none have successfully bred.

Good to see Maneki has finally been bred from!

Can't say I'm wild about most of Australia Zoo's names for their tiger cubs, rhino and giraffe calves. I much prefer names native to the animals country of origin like they do at almost every other zoo.

I really can't stand it when a company sponsors an animal or wins naming rights through an auction and calls it something stupid (Wasn't there once a lion called Holden Commodore?).

WORST. NAMES. EVER.

I 100% agree with you Zoofan15
