Sumatran Tigers in Europe #2

Nakal is moving from West Midlands Safari to Howletts(staying in the UK)

Nakal is off on a new adventure!

We’re saying goodbye to our handsome Sumatran tiger, Nakal, as he heads to his new home at Howletts Wild Animal Park.

Keepers will truly miss his big personality - from his playful chuffs and affectionate head rubs, to his cheeky snarls and love of marmite enrichment! A gentle giant once he trusts you, Nakal has always struck the perfect balance between loving attention and enjoying his own space (usually hiding in the bamboo!).

He leaves a lasting legacy at WMSP through his cubs - Lestari, Nadirah, Nova, and Naresh - and has been a patient, playful role model to daughter Lestari, who adores following him around.

We’ll miss every bit of him, from his striking features to his independent ways and wish him all the best in this exciting new chapter

Sumatran tiger Achillies has moved from Howletts(UK) to another European collection (presumably abroad)

Does anyone know the sense behind these moves? Achilles and Nakal are brothers. On the first look it makes no sense to me why Howletts sends their tiger away just to get the same genes. Prague could have taken Nakal right away, the outcome would have been the same and it would have been one move less?!?

Perhaps Achilles and Tipah were incompatible; which can often be the case. Introducing the pair would have been risky, and so the decision has instead been made to try with Nakal, who's more experienced.

Does anyone Know who the new tigress at Fota Wildlife Park is?

I haven’t heard of any new tigers arriving since they received a new pair - a male, Dao from Zoo Krefeld and a female, Jambi from Zoo Heidelberg.

From my understanding, the pair at Howletts got on exceptionally well and this decision was an EEP one to attempt to breed Achilles in Prague.

Thanks, I was there on Friday and it was definitely a new tiger. It wasn't Dao, Batak or Jambi. I can't work out how to upload the photo of her. I'll try and ask a member of staff for info during the week.

Apologies if I've stupidly missed this but has Crispin left ZSL London yet?
I know his brother Zac has been rehomed abroad

Not yet. Crispin's move is part of a bigger chain and other moves (further up the chain) need to happen first.
