Sumatran Tigers in Europe

The other two from Heidelberg will leave towards Hungary (certainly Sosto) and France.

An addition to my own list a bit above: Lisbon still has 1.2 Sumatran tigers. Old Pendekar and Sigli as well as one daughter - I suppose it's one from 2013 without stated name.

I hope Gio and the young female will be successful breeding pair. He is a good tempered fertile male with good genes from Hermes and Alia. On the other hand his twin brother Vanni died in Frankfurt few years ago. But he had unluck with the females. Lara was always too stressful/agressive and Zoja was infertile.

Do you know where are these two females now and does Lara already have offsprings?

Lara is now at Halle (not currently paired with a male)

Zoja is still at CERZA unless she's recently died or been moved on. They received another female (from Rheine via Frankfurt) last year for breeding.

0:1 Surya (2018) is to move to Zoo La Boissiere du Dore from Jihlava to breed with male Kuasa. I wonder if these means that Suma has died there?

Suma is still alive. Kuasa and Surya will live in the newly built enclosure. Suma will remain in the current exhibit

Dumai, *28.2.2021 in Heidelberg moved to Nesles a couple of weeks ago as stated in social media earlier this week. When I visited Heidelberg about two weeks ago they only had the parents left, which means that also Sabah has left - probably to Sosto

I’m hoping someone can help me. Does anyone have any info on Wanita, a female born at Dublin Zoo in 2009? Tmk she was still at Zoo de La Flèche in 2019. Is anyone aware of her offspring and where she currently is if still alive?

Wanita still lives in La Flèche. I'm not sure if she has offspring, I couldn't find anything about that.

No offspring of Wanita and Jalur so far. A bit of a pity since genetically both are interesting.

I heard that Batu died at Aalborg in 2019, and that the sire of Bethari’s litter was her son, but I’m not sure if this is true or not.
Keisha moved from Benidorm to Parken Zoo in 2017, and in 2021 had a son with Tondi (who moved to Parken in 2020) named ‘Toba’.
Kerinci is the name of the female that lives at Fuengirola Zoo.
Jakarta, offspring of Babi x Jambi at Athens lives at Jerusalem Zoo. Kepala at Jerusalem died in 2021.
Zoja lives at CERZA Zoo. Her time at Sosto was only a temporary breeding situation.
Sigra at Reynou died in 2017.

Recently Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) Toba arrived from Parken Zoo.
Would this be the same Toba as mentioned above?

The last situation at Attica I know of is:
1.0 Babi, *9/2003 in Auneau
0.1 Jambi, *10/2012 in Eskilstuna (Bagus x Tornade)
+ their offspring 1.0 Rio, *6/2019 in Attica

There are two Toba's, one from Eskilstuna and one in Obterre. Given the age and living situation it is very likely that he is from Eskilstuna.

A new male in Attica probably means that Babi has died. The bigger question is where Rio is at now.

Toba and Jambi are not related even though both are from Eskilstuna by the way.

Czech Republic

Praha - Surya arrived from Champrepus in December

Denmark

Batu died of old age in 2019. The father of the 2022 litter is his son (name not known) from the 2019 litter. So the cubs are the result of a mother/son mating

United Kingdom

London - Inca (female cub) sadly died in December 2022 due to an accidental injury.

Tamworth - Dua died sometime ago (I think 2021?) They don't have a male at present.

France
La Teste - Jarum is no longer there.

Greece
The only Sumatran Tiger at Attica currently is the male, Rio. Born at Attica in June 2019

Jerusalem
JBZ - Currently houses female, Jakarta (born June 2019) from Attica Zoo.

Spain
Benidorm no longer keep Sumatran Tiger's. The enclosure is used for another cat species

Hope this helps.

According to this post, neither Jambi or Babi apparently reside at the zoo.

In the video it is mentioned hat Toba comes from Parken Zoo Eskilstuna. They also mention Rio living there allready. So these two are the new couple of Athens.

It seems as if Toba is actually a female, not a male. So the new breeding pair is Rio and Toba. Wonder what happened to Jambi after all?

Hello!
I'm french and I saw Jalur and Wanita at the arrow zoo not so long ago and I know they are still there because the zoo regularly updates them on its facebook page! But there is something I haven't understood despite my research. According to this article: Le coup de foudre de Jalur et Wanita there would have been 2 other females in contact with Jalur before Wanita arrives. Do you know who they are? Thanks !

Here is the translation of the article if you can't access it:

Jalur and Wanita's love at first sight

The two Sumatran tigers, Wanita (the female) and Jalur (the male) are the two heroes of La Flèche zoo. A wealth for the animal park since there are only 4 or 5 specimens in France.

(Article from August 16, 2013)

“In the morning, it can be quite a festival. We hear growls and roars all the way to the other end of the park! Cyril Hue, veterinarian and animal manager at La Flèche zoo, has a nice smile.

Given the enthusiasm shown by his star couple of Sumatran tigers, there are only four or five in France, a happy event will not be long in coming. Happy event for two reasons: the species is very close to extinction, with at best half a thousand specimens still alive on its island of origin, and births in captivity

But for now, Wanita, a beautiful 4-year-old female, and her even beefier 6-year-old companion, Jalur, are playing shy.

[...]

“Jalur came to us from Stuttgart Zoo in January 2009. We were on the waiting list to get him a fertile female, but when she arrived, things went wrong! The two tigers did not get along at all, they fought all the time. Madame had to be sent back. A few months later, we tried with a second female, but it was rodeo again. Fights, wounds, that didn't fit either. »

Enter Wanita, born at Dublin Zoo and of reproductive age. All the Irish being friendly, even the tigers, “just arrived, it was love at first sight”, remembers the veterinarian.

"We didn't put them together right away. But, from the start, Wanita came to rub against the bars. The two exchanged growls. They often remain glued to each other for a long time. »

Except at mealtimes where, there, it's no longer fun. “At the end of the day, both of them, especially Jalur, are a little more stressed. They know it's almost time for the food distribution! »

Obviously, among tigers, the notion of a romantic dinner has yet to be invented....

I was in Aalborg last month and opposite of the tiger enclosure is the kitchen for the predators. There are pictures of the tigers they have and one of them is indeed Bethari. The other one mentioned by name is Geram, born 23 april 2019. So I presume Geram is the son of Bethari and was indeed the father of the cubs born in2022. What happened with the cubs anyway because they are not in Aalborg anymore?

Does anybody know the name of the female sumatran tiger which moved from Heidelberg to Sóstó Zoo(Hungary)?
