Firstly , I wish to say that I am generally not a fan of this sort of establishment
However , as this place was near where I was staying , I decided to check out how bad it was .......
It is part of a huge shopping/hotel/amusement park/hospital complex , and I believe it was on the site of an old quarry or tin mine ( but I could be smacked down on this one )
This place was better than most petting zoos that I have visited -- not perfect but certainly not horrible . And what makes this peting zoo different was that it had some animals that are not found in petting zoos in reasonable enclosures
They had hybrid tigers displayed in a large cavern like enclosure that had plenty of vegetation and water , and the largest sunbear enclosure that I have seen , with plenty of holes , logs , vegetation etc , as well as a walk through aviary , and a large lake that had apairama(?) Patrick will be able to inform you if I got that one wrong -- it is a huge fish found in Brazil .
They are in the process of building better and larger enclosures for numerous
animals , and a senior keeper of the place told me he would like to make even more improvements for the animals benefit , rather than the peoples .
( this is what he told me -- I am not going to say whether this will happen or not , and put my foot in it like my post re Taiping Zoo !! )
Most places like this tend to be purely for entertaimnent value , but as I said , this one was better than alot of petting zoos I have come across .
I doubt that they will be involved in any breeding programme , but at least they try to provide some quality care for the animals .
