News just off the press, Sydneys Wildlife World has now got A huge 5 metre Salt water crocodile from a Croc farm near Darwin. He should be a good display for them.

For the reptile fans on the forum, the Male croc at Currumbin would take a bit of beating, it's the largest I have seen, it looks like the size of a horse :D
 
Weird. The saltwater croc in the Aquarium is probably the feature exhibit of the "Northern Rivers" zone. Surprised that they would duplicate an exhibit between the two attractions.
 
Where are they gonna put a 5m Croc? I don't think they have any more space for new exhibits.

from looking at the website i think that they have just flooded the floor of the free flight birds and turned it into the croc area as there is no free flight bird aviry listed on the exhibit list any more

it does still say that there are birds in there so i can only hope there are more things for them to perch on than the three palm trees in the photo
 
The free-flight bird area has extensive perching opportunities. I guess it just won't be safe to go back to the ground for them, though.

Monster croc comes to Sydney

The new croc exhibit is incredible. It's been completely rebuilt over the past 3 months. It's designed so you can see him no matter where he is - from above, from the side and from below the water. If he comes up to the glass, you're literally within 2 inches of him.

The rest of the exhibit features animatronic crocs, real baby crocs and lots of interactive audio visual features designed by a specialist company that have previously worked things like the Lord of the Rings, Peter Pan and Narnia film sets and on exhibits at zoos and attractions across the world. It's impressive.

Hope you enjoy it. Rex is settling in better than we could've hoped.
 
When I went to SWW I wondered why they hadnt flooded large areas of the floor of that aviary, with underwater viewing. I can imagine how cool it looks!

And on a side note:
Have we had another attack of Zoo Big Brother in this thread :)
May I ask "big brother" to have a read through this thread.

Yeah, it's a much better use of the space now.

It's a total redesign of the area plus a bit more. The glass in the aviary area wasn't designed to sustain the water pressure that would've built up if it was flooded, so the whole enclosure was re-thought and then rebuilt from the floor up.

It's always good to hear your opinions. It opens to the public on 22nd December, so it'd be great to see feedback on here once folks have paid a visit.

Within an hour of being released into the enclosure, Rex came right up to the glass in the downstairs viewing area. The last pic on the link to ninemsn that I gave shows him up against the glass. You get to within the glass-width of him. He's an absolute beaut.
 
Yeah I had a look at the photos. I will try and make a visit some time in the next year. Whats the Blue? Just a tarp or is it permanent?
 
Just a tarp, yeah.

When he was pulled from his container, he still had some of the binding around his limbs that was used to prevent them from being injured during transit. The tarp was put down just so that he wasn't slid along the rock floor on his bare belly.

Glad I'm not the one going in there to get it back...
 
Yeah, there's going to be some Banded Rainbow Fish and also some Eastern Rainbow Fish.

We'll add more info to the inhabitants page of the exhibit shortly.

I believe the birds in there will be Red-collared Lorikeets, Gouldian Finches and Zebra Finches.

The other birds from the old aviary exhibit have largely been relocated in other areas.
 
apprently theres special on it called "operation croc" screening next sunday night :) looking forward to seeing this big boy being fed!
