Do you mean as Wild Life Sydney or this facility in general? When it was Sydney Wildlife World (and comprised two levels rather than one) there were freshwater crocodiles in the pool in the butterfly exhibit.
 
I remember there being freshies in a glass fronted exhibit on one of the upper levels, with a waterfall. It might have been shared with Boyd's Forest Dragons.

Yes, you are correct. I haven't visited since Merlin took over and put everything on one level, but I knew they were planning to move the freshies from the butterfly exhibit to an upstairs exhibit. I hadn't mentioned this because I hadn't seen it for myself.
 
WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo have received their first ever tree kangaroo. A male Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo called Kofi has arrived from Healesville Sanctuary.

You’d think it is a real life drop bear, but this cute little creature is actually an endangered Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo and is the first to be welcomed to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.

The adorable 7.3kg kangaroo called Kofi arrived at the Darling Harbour sanctuary earlier this month after flying from Victoria.

He spent the past two weeks settling into the zoo’s new Tricky Tongue and Treetops Zone — which was redesigned to cater to his specific needs – and features a newly built hut, extra tree branches to climb and mulberry and willow trees to snack on.

There are a number of breeding programs in place internationally to help grow the species’ population, including one at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria where Kofi was born and raised.

A really cool addition.

I do hope the zoo will be more ambitious in future with exhibits and its animal collection. It is all a bit predictable and mundane for now. Some enclosures I consider underwhelming and a few even substandard from the evidence I have seen so far.
 
Wildlife Sydney Zoo has received a numbat from Perth Zoo which is now on display.

GREAT NEWS! We have welcomed our very first and unique Numbat, his name is Frankie and he's super cute. As domestic border restrictions continued to ease last week, the 490-gram rescue marsupial travelled nine hours from Perth Zoo to our zoo where he settled into his new home.

Frankie will act as an important ambassador by raising awareness and educating our visitors on the endangered status of numbats and their critically low numbers in the wild. Come and meet Frankie in our newly created Tricky Tongues and Treetop habitat. He arrived just in time for school holidays, so come and stamp you Aussie Animal Passport 'in WA', right here in Sydney.

The zoo have received a female Tasmanian devil:

WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo Welcomes Dharra The Tassie Devil!

Dharra the Tasmanian Devil travelled five hours from Dubbo to her new home in Darling Harbour where she plays an important role in educating locals of the delicate state of Tasmanian Devils in the wild.

Dharra spent her first few weeks in quarantine before meeting her new habitat-mate Bub in the zoo’s Tassie Devil’s Den. Less than one week later, Zoo Keepers say she is very active in her new space and seems comfortable in the new environment and with her new friend.
 
A few updates from social media:
  • Wild Life Sydney Zoo have released plans for future projects including the addition of Little Penguins for the facility (despite there being penguins housed at the aquarium next door).
  • a few recent deaths including their Quokka and large Saltwater Crocodile but their Numbat and Goodfellow’s Tree-Kangaroo both have recent mentions within the last month and are still around. Two new Tasmanian Devils have also arrived recently and the devil exhibit has undergone a large refurbishment to include a new viewing area allowing visitors to watch the devils through bubble viewing.
  • A recent platypus swap with Taronga has occurred. Jackie, their wild-born female platypus has moved to Taronga Zoo for breeding purposes. A male named Mackenzie who hatched at Healesville in 2000 has arrived in her place.
 
A few new arrivals:
  • a new female Bilby recently arrived and has been introduced to their two resident females in the nocturnal area.
  • three female Yellow-footed Rock-Wallabies also recently arrived. They are named Calli, Noddy and Melea. They will join two existing rock-wallabies which are mixed with their Common Wombat in the Wallaby Cliffs exhibit.
 
Four venomous snakes have arrived at Wildlife Sydney Zoo - two Northern Death Adders and two Eastern Tiger Snakes now form part of a new exhibit space for snakes joining their resident Eastern Brown Snake. This area was under construction during my visit in December and is positioned near the Tasmanian devils at the entrance - reported on their FB page.
 
Hey there!

I will be visiting Australia for the first time in a couple months and am planning on combining Sydney Wild Life with the neighboring Sea Life. A couple questions:
-Are the Plains Rats still present? They're listed as both a current and former holding on ZTL.
-Is the Red-Legged Pademelon still on-exhibit?
-Does the zoo actually have Mahogany Glider? I've heard the ZTL identification is incorrect and I know they have sugar gliders (Krefft's?).

As many on ZC may know, I'm someone who's interested in pretty much any and all wildlife, so if anyone has any advice on the best times to see certain species or tips on particularly hard to see animals at the zoo, I'm all ears! If anyone has any advice on any good birding/wildlife spots within the city as well, please feel free to PM me.

  • Red-legged Pademelon are currently mixed with the Southern Cassowary. Ensure you look carefully for other birds with the cassowary like Satin Bowerbird.
  • ZTL is full of many errors for Australian holdings. They have Sugar and Yellow-bellied Glider. Mahogany Glider is on-show only in north Queensland facilities as far as I know currently.
  • They had Plains Rat as of late May, seems very likely.
  • A few nice species to keep an eye out like Northern Death Adder and Spencer's Monitor. Don't miss the lamprey next door in the aquarium near the archerfish tank - enjoy!
