Symbio Wildlife Park Symbio Developments & New Species

Yes, Chori at Symbio lived until the age of 17, while her sons at Wildlife HQ (Nima and Dawa) were a few months away from turning 18 when they passed away. Another son (Pasang) is turning 17 this year. Good genes!!!

Chito at Hamilton Zoo was almost 18 when died in late 2020. It’ll be interesting to see if his many offspring reach this age.

Pretty sure that Mr Myagi, Chori's partner, was around 17 when he passed too...

I have literally hundreds of photos of Chori... I used to visit so often that she started to recognise me, and would come down from her high spot and let me take some pretty gorgeous shots of her... I miss her so much... such a lovely natured girl...

Symbio Wildlife Park have opened a new subtropical walkthrough aviary. Birds currently in the new aviary are Nicobar Pigeon, Wompoo Fruit-Dove, White-browed Scrubwren, Eastern Yellow Robin, Regent Bowerbird, Noisy Pitta and White-fronted Chat. Superb Fruit-Doves are currently off-display as well but are part of the planned aviary mix and additional species will be added. Planning will soon commence on an arid bird aviary as the park aims to continue expanding their bird collection with new species and displays - confirmed via email.

Sounds like a great addition to the zoo! I really do need to get back to Symbio...

The Little Penguins will be arriving next weekend and the brand new exhibit will open just before Christmas.

This would have to be one of the nicer exhibits for these guys out there. Far better then some private zoos have. Featherdale used to keep there's with a pond smaller shallower then my goldfish pond. Which was not big. So its nice to see private zoos creating nice looking larger exhibits for them.

Does anyone know whether these sweet little guys were bred at Symbio, or if they were rescued? They’re adorable!

Symbio bred several chicks onsite throughout the 2010’s (the last appears to have been 2018), so my assumption is they’re Symbio bred depending on what their adult holdings are.

Presumably numbers have dwindled and they’re happy to rear some more chicks. Emu aren’t hard to breed, so they may well have been taking steps to avoid the production of chicks in the interim years.
