The zoo announced death of their American black bear.

They used to keep 2 brothers, one died around 2021-2022, the second one now - aged 28. I have no idea what is their plan with the empty enclosure.

Personally, I wish a male Asiatic black bear from nearby Konopiste castle would move in. He is an offspring of zoo Zlin (I think he is still owned by the zoo) who inhabits the castle´s moat and the castle owner aka Ministry of Culture decided recently to phase-out all castle bears in the country and send them to German sanctuaries till 2030.

The new rescue facility for seized animals remained empty just for 1 month.

Yesterday, 5 (European) wolves have arrived. It´s a pack that used to be kept at private family house garden in Prague city. Neighours complained about their howling during nights for years. They got seized by authorities due to substandard enclosure they were kept in (25 m2).

The new parrot house seems to be close to finished. It will have 8 outside aviaries and corresponding number of inside boxes. The house might be plain looking but I´m glad the birds get space that is high enough for them to feel well.

Two lions (white male and yellow female) will move to Tabor zoo soon. This is permanent placement, the zoo built a second lion enclosure for them.

A younger puma was sent to a small park Altenfelden in Austria recently.

There are still two pumas left. Search for a new home continues.

Both lions have moved to zoo Tabor yesterday. Here a YT clip of the transport (done by staff of Dvur Kralove).

EDIT: a media article mentions that also the remaining 2 pumas from the same owner will move to zoo Tabor in next few days.

First inhabitants of the new bird house are 3,0 white-cheeked turacos.

They got seized by authorities from illegal animal trade (probably another birds from the Slovak summer-2024 police seizure of 500 various exotic birds).

The new parrot house officialy opened today. It has space/boxes for 8 species but only 7 species are on show.

  • 2 moluccan cockatoos
  • 2 blue-and-yellow macaws
  • 2 green-winged macaws
  • 1 scarlet macaw
  • 3 white-crested turacos
  • 1 green iguana

Two of these animals were moved from Tabor to a private owner Desenský in South Bohemia (localy famous dog trainer of formerly dangerous dogs) who built a large new enclosure for them. They are 0.2 and are not pure wolves but 3/4 wolves and 1/4 Czechoslovak wolfdog. But due to such high content, they are handled like pure wolves when it comes to permits and regulation.
