Taman Safari Bogor Taman Safari Bogor news

The zoo received a five-year old Golden Bengal Tiger named Jupiter on 18th of January this year, which is currently undergoing accclimatisation. For now, the wording of the news is pretty ambiguous, not clearly specifying where Jupiter originally comes from

Jupiter seekor Golden Tiger spesies langka harimau Benggala, menjadi koleksi baru Taman Safari Indonesia, Bogor.
Taman Safari Indonesia has somewhat confirmed that Jupiter the golden tiger was acquired directly from India, though only refer to the place-of-origin as the "Bengal region in eastern India". While no direct source are given, the fact that they given how long the trip taken by Jupiter to Cisarua (4.483 km) is a given.

Jupiter is likely the first pure Bengal tiger to be sent to Indonesia in recent years.

The Great Taman Safari Bogor on Instagram: "Hai Sahabat Satwa Kenalin Jupiter: Si Golden Tiger Teman Satwa Baru di Taman Safari Bogor! ✨ Tahukah kamu? #LetsGoSafari #DiscoverWildlifeKingdom #TheGreatTamanSafariBogor"

Could this be the first pure Bengal Tiger in an Indonesian zoo?

There were reportedly several pure white Bengal tigers in Surabaya Zoo that are sent from India years ago, though the last one apparently died in around 2014. Jupiter is the latest one to arrive in Indonesia.

I suspect that is just a garbled version of claiming the animal as a Bengal Tiger, rather than saying the animal has actually come from Bengal.

Being a "golden tiger" it will not be a pure Bengal Tiger.

Yikes! I got to excited that I didn't consider that possibility.

The Enchanting Valley apparently was taken over by Taman Safari Indonesia from Taman Wisata Matahari, a rather mundane theme park in the Cisarua area. It has been confirmed from the link below that several animals di present in the zoo.
  • Rabbit petting area.
  • Domestic goose pond.
  • Shetland pony ride.
  • Animal interactions with binturong, blue-and-yellow macaw, and albino reticulated python.
  • Exhibit for South African ostrich.

Not quite happy with this development. It is a waste of space that should be used to have BTS or more breeding spaces for the critically endangered Sumatrans. If this is indicative of the quality of animal collection management yet ... at TSI - Bogor/Cisarua .... than goodness forbid ... This pseud curatiorial animal management type needs to stop ... Period!

TBH: What is a mutation colour tiger pure-bred Bengal or not (which I do not believe as there are - alas - a good number of Indian zoos from within the CZA network that are prepared to breed these mutation tigers along to pure-bred normal coloured Bengal tigers......!? I find it both useless tripe and the PR communications about it ... the absurd hogwash that it is!

Taman Safari Bogor already have a good (to the extend, great) breeding and research projects for native species, notably Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tiger, Javan banteng, Komodo dragon, Javan hawk-eagle, and so many others, particularly birds. I do agree that there indeed need to be more focus and expansion into this projects and new projects (Javan warty pigs, for example, or other primates that they have). But, for context, the land that is now Enchanting Valley is located quite far from the main Taman Safari Bogor complex, even farther I think from their resort at Royal Safari Garden. Worth noting, like I had informed, the Enchanting Valley is located in what is then the "Taman Wisata Matahari", a defunct themed park.

Taman Safari Bogor themselves are already very large, I don't see the need of spreading themselves too thin with logistics and such.

I do agree with your position, we're both in the same stance regarding conservation and welfare in Indonesian zoos. But, if you think about it, this is unintentionally have the potential to be a good chance for Taman Safari Bogor to focus more on their collection, conservation, research, and most importantly, welfare.

You have to remember how general Indonesians view zoos and wildlifes in general heavily influenced how zoos and aquarias in Indonesia managed themselves. There's a reason why there's so many focus and emphasis on animal interactions, animals with color morphs, so many popular animals (I.e capybaras, tigers, otters, etc.), and other stuffs that are heavily entertainment. Ordinary Indonesian, celebrities and animal influencers, and in turn zoos and aquarias themselves sees these places just like how we see a themed parks, circuses, or even, in a scarily rising instances, private collections. For Westerners, just imagine the SeaWorlds in the US, which in Indonesia there's dozens of those.

Knowing this, the "Valley franchises" of Taman Safari Indonesia and something similar in Indonesian zoos and aquarias, in my view, have the potential to divert peoples interests. These guests can satisfy themselves with the entertainment side of things; attractions, animal feedings and interactions (Preferably with domestic animals), Instagrammable spots and restaurants, animal shows, and such, where, if popular enough, can divert people needs of entertainment to this places. With this, the main park/zoo can focus more and, perhaps with this certain economic moves, fund more conservation and research program, as well as education on rarer and endangered (sub)species with better welfare and care thanks to this additional funds and divertion of focus.

But, with how entrenched these views of Indonesians towards zoos, aquarias, and animals in general, I'm not keen this projection might be succesful. But that's one of the context I feel like foreigners need to know about the current problem of Indonesian zoos and aquarias.

It's a simple marketing move if you think about it. Over exaggerate an "rare animal" that so happens to be popular on the internet (The tiger was imported when 'Ava' the golden tiger from Chiang Mai Night Safari was still catching headlines) and just wait until it gain enough attention.

The golden tiger at Cisarua was already on the news even before Taman Safari officially announced him on social media. It's worth noting that farm-bred or color mutations are generally much more popular than even the rarest of animals, even more if there's interactions. If Taman Safari Prigen decided to display their Sumatran striped rabbit tomorrow, guests will still flock the white tiger exhibit and show.

The park is also confirmed to have a raccoon, likely being their exclusive species not seen in other Taman Safari facilities.

An focus group discussion has took place about analyzing and finalizing the standard procedure for the translocation of Javan rhinoceros in the Ujung Kulon National Park. Notably, Taman Safari Indonesia has took part in the discussion.

While this might raise questions and excitement, this doesn't exactly mean that TSI will be getting the species anytime soon.
  1. It's not uncommon for zoos, especially Taman Safari Indonesia, to take part in insitu conservations. Previously, Taman Safari Indonesia had a role in the transportation of the Sumatran rhinoceros from Cincinnati Zoo.
  2. This is also likely to be a general group discussion on the care of Javan rhinoceros. TSI, which have a long history of rhinoceros husbandry in Indonesia, might be invited to give some insight on how generally rhinoceros are transported or other practises.
  3. It's not unlikely that TSI might be getting the species somehow. With PCBI and the park's history on managing reclusive or species that are very much absent in captivity (Notably bay cat, Sulawesi palm civet, and three different species of primates from the Mentawai Islands), there's chances that Cisarua could get a Javan rhino. Though due to the rhino being largely well-known to the general public, this might cause further discussions in the public that TSI might want to avoid.
Ayo jaga bersama! #badakjawa #ujungkulon #yayasanbadakindonesia #btnuk #tamannasionalujungkulon"

During a visit by the Chinese ambasador to Indonesia, there are talks about cooperation between Taman Safari Indonesia and the Chinese government and their wildlife-related apparatus. One of these plans include the possibility of China sending golden snub-nosed monkey to Taman Safari Bogor, a move also done recently by Pairi Daiza of Belgium this month with the first Qinling snub-nosed monkey to Europe. Wether or not, depending wether TSI seriously interested in getting this species or just a very early plan, if Cisarua get the Qinling subspecies or others. Either way, this can be considered as a major news for Indonesian zoos and I will be looking forward if this plan came to fruition.

It seems to be the second attempt made by the Park, with the first being last year. Hopefully it will be succesful this year.

I hope the same thing too. Hopefully this'll make Taman Safari the next zoo in SEA to successfully inseminate giant pandas.

A Giant Panda cub was born on 27 November 2025, though strangely it was not announced until yesterday when the current President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto showed off pictures of the new cub to chairman Wang Huning, naming him Satrio Wiratama or 'Rio' for short.

Ini Potret Bayi Panda 'Satrio Wiratama' yang Namanya Diberikan Prabowo

Oh my god finally a good news coming from Indonesia in a long, LONG while. I had been wondering how long would the insemination program would go on, but to have a cub born here is amazing.
