Tapir Breeding Pairs in the UK

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any breeding pairs of tapirs in the UK that are expecting to have a birth in the near future? I'd love to see a baby tapir still in it's stripes :) so if I knew where to watch out for a birth that would be great!

Haha I hope not!

I know there's a potential breeding pair at Chester but there too young at the minute, and at LSZ but that's a bit far at the minute and of what i heard there's still a young calf from a previous breeding.

Paignton's latest Brazilian Tapir was born on 20 May 2013 and no longer has stripes. She and her mother have been separated from the father for a while so no chance of another pregnancy yet.

Are you talking about Brazilian or Malayan's?

If the former, then there is a good chance of another calf at Chester this year

There is a breeding pair of Brazilian tapirs at Dudley. Chico & Meena have had offspring: Ronnie (born November 2009); Tallulah (born March 2011 - moved to Longleat safari park in October 2013) and Eve (born July 2012).

It might almost be easier to list the places that don't have Brazilian Tapirs, they are the exceptions rather than the rule. Of course that doesn't help with TimidTapir's (I like this name;)) request though.

Any and all tapirs! :D haha

I'm going to Chester with the other half in march so I'll have to ask the keepers if they're expecting or when the likely time of a birth would occur :)

haha thanks Pertinax, I was gonna go with a totally boring username that I use for other sites, but then it came to me in a light bulb moment ;)

Aww dammit! I'm from the north west so its a pain getting down there, but I visited in June last year, but I didn't even see the tapir enclosure, never mind the little one :(!

Ahhh I'm at Uni in Wolverhampton so this could definitely be one to keep an eye on :)

Thanks to everyone for replying and helping with my stripy tapir hunt :)

There is a 4-5 month old Tapir born at the Lake District Wildlife Park. He may or may not still have his stripes as I believe they lose them around 6 months old.

I remember the one being born at Lake District Wildlife Park, was wondering if he would still have stripes as i know that's what TimidTapir is after. Might be worth a trip out as it isn't far from us in Carlisle.

Thanks Mr T
I've seen pics of them at the stage where they've still got there stripes but just about to out grow them and that's not quite what I'm after even though they're still the cutest!

although looking into their experiences with the tapir's seems really good value and includes meerkats and lemurs too, so i think me and the other half will go sometime when we have the money spare over the summer to see them ^^

It's a nice little collection. No major animals there but it's a nice day out in a fantastic setting.

Oh wow! you've got me very excited now! haha :D

Interestingly and relevant to other discussions on here, I showed this to a colleague whose immediate response was 'how strange, is it an anteater?'.
