Does anyone know what happened to the babirusuas at Colchester Zoo? When that area got demolished for "Dragons of Komodo" in January 2005 I'm sure I saw them temporarily kept in the gelada babboon's indoor area. Does anyone know where they came from and when they arrived?

Also were there Brazilian tapirs next door to the babirusas? Does anyone know anything of them (I've mostly forgotten them)? Fineally in my 1970s brochure there were Malayan Tapirs kept opposite where the amur leopard extention is now (now home to black spider monkeys) there was also in this area then were Kangeroos and wallabys and it was also the entance to the game park. Did the brazilian tapirs replace them? I do know that Mark has mentioned them before.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.:D

Cant remember tapirs but the babirusas went to chester or south lakes i think. Yes they were temporarily held in the gelada house. cant remember much as i was only young.

Don`t think Chester recieved any Babirusa from Colchester if they did it will have been a male only.

Perhaps so. I hope they've moved to somewhere which has much better facilities than the 1's at Colchester.

Any information at all on the tapirs?
