Oh thats sad :( Yeah Paul in the NOC house is a nut almost a Gnome. I told him he reminded me of David Bellamy, he loved that. Havent done any prac days up there yet just food prep. Hopefully will be give NOC house this time. Ive been doing the MAC's, but I love it :)

i stand by what i said, i believe that we should be able to bring exotics in in the future, i believe that we should continue working with Aus sea lions, i think that becoming zoo's only showing australian wildlife is a very dangerous trap to fall into and phasing out species such as californian sea lions is just one part of a very bad trend in Australian zoo's. The reason that i keep bringing up the leopard seals is because that was one of your points used to justify your previous questioning of my experience. I was never rude to you orginally but you are just unbearable, you complain about not being allowed to bring exotics such as hippos and bongos into zoo's but then you want to stop exotics in the marine mammal facilities. You are as bad as you claim i am. I am a zookeeper, everything i have said is the truth, and i will not let some jerk who doesn't even work in the industry treat me like some dipshit. You do nothing but condesend and lower people to make yourself feel important. What is important in this industry is the animals and thier health and well being so trying to shoot down people so you can be the best "zoo person" is just stupid. Your points are lacking in judgement and justification. So please stop being so stupid.

That would be a nightmare up there at the moment after all this rain, the ground would be all churned up.

I have been lucky so far it hasnt rained any of the days ive been there. But ive gotta come this weekend to talk to some of the keepers about a assignment i have.

As no one else appears to be commenting on the cat fighting occurring on this thread, I will. To me Zooworker is "pleading" with Patrick to end this debate with emphasised requests for his "stupidity" to seize. This could possibly be because he is drained of this debate and wishes to participate in the discussion of Taronga without persistent antagonism in which he is entitled to do, or something more sinister; like releasing someone (Patrick) has uncovered his fake ID and is desperately attempting to persuade both Patrick and the forum users in general that he is not an imposter- in order for him to maintain the powerful alias of being a Zookeeper.

On the other hand, the resume and general knowleadge of the seal program's history and status at Taronga Zoo are both fairly convincing; while Patrick's agrument seems to have become less persuasive; possibly due to a defence finally being installed by Zookeeper which has affected his ability to conjure brilliant rebuts in turn.

I find Patrick's point that Zookeeper failed to deny his accusations twice especially suspicious also; as I noticed this in another dispute between the pair (don't know date or thread), primarily a one way dispute (Patrick to Zookeeper). It is interesting how Zookeeper has avoided confronting this issue until now. I can't see how "representing a large institution" can prevent someone from maturely dismissing these claims. Sure, an enraged attack which Patrick expected may not be appropriate for someone of Zookeeper's supposed situation, but a relatively level-headed rebutal (which was eventually delivered) surely could/would/should have been used immediately.

Prior to today I actually agreed with Patrick's accusation of Zookeeper being an imposter. Now, I've been slightly persuaded to believe Zookeeper's argument. However, as I do love a great conspiracy, I will remain on Patrick's side of believing Zookeeper is an imposter.

Also: If I am not mistaken, Patrick has mentioned he will be travelling to Sydney and subsequently Taronga soon. To settle this dispute, why don't you 2 just arrange to meet? I mean, if Zookeeper actually works at Taronga it shouldn't be difficult for anyone as you will both be there simultaneously (unless Zookeeper incoveniently (or conveniently?!) does not work the same hours of Patrick's intended visit).

i didnt want to be drawn into debating publicly the authenticity of zooworkers claims to be working for the ZPB of NSW......though there are alot of people murmuring via PM about it.....and quite frankly after the number of people popping up lately on this forum who are just imposters, and knowing full well the ZPB of NSW position on unauthorised forays into a public media such as this forum, and Zooworkers longstanding employment history with this organisation and I imagine unwillingness to jeapordise this career its no wonder why some members are wondering about zooworker.
ill try to remain objective on this one, but so far I have not seen one effective counter-argument against Patrick, at least not one that makes much sense and doesnt contradict earlier posts. in fact, its ironic that the guy from Melbourne with nothing more than an ARAZPA membership to his name seems to have a better grasp on many of the issues being debated on this forum. Im not trying to undermine your credibility Zooworker, just saying that none of the info u have disclosed so far is anythink more than what a volunteer or zoofriend or even an observent zoo visitor could come up with.
i hope i dont offend u dude but please understand that some members of this fourm have reservations about people who say they work for zoos, particularly zoos who come down on their employees like a tonne of bricks if they are talking via any form of media without authorisation.

This war of words between Patrick and Zooworker is incredibly intriguing. As many of you know I live in Canada but always participate and follow the Aussie zoo threads as I've visited 14 zoos/wildlife parks/aquariums in Australia and am even contemplating whether or not to move there.

Anyway, Zooworker's lack of defending his job position when Patrick twice accused him of not working at Taronga Zoo is bizarre, and the fact that zoos frown upon their members actively discussing zoo policy on internet forums would make it seem that a person doing so would be in danger of losing their job. The constant misspelling of Kodiak in one message was also puzzling, as was the John C. Shedd Aquarium mistake (its John G. Shedd Aquarium!). Honest mistakes or uninformed mistakes???

However, Zooworker has put forth enough information to make it still seem possible that he works with the Taronga Zoo's seals, and so must be given the benefit of the doubt for now. But an arranged visit between the two would solve everything, and Triffle put forth a number of good points in an earlier posting.

yes the spelling things baffled quite a few members, as well as the fact that all of the information put forward is stuff most forum members would have been aware of already.
that and the fact that many people are having a hard time fitting a description of zooworkerto the marine mammals team at taronga. benefit of the doubt???

Hello,
Do the eastern long-beaked echidnas in Taronga Zoo live in a mixed exhibit? Does anybody have information about that? Thanks …

Why do you guys need proof of some one working at TZ if they say they work there then they do TZ has many departments. I believe them and don't question them about there position at TZ, i dont have the need too, Please keep on topic.

the long beaked echidnas arent on public display mate.

Not really sure why this is. In the times that ive worked there ive only been with the short beak, but have made food up for both. The food is really gross too, meat soup .... it took a day to get the mince out from under my nails.

They're not on display, according to Zoonooz, because they were too shy for the exhibit where they were recently held (the one outside the platypus house that now has a wombat). There are no details about future plans to exhibit them, which is a pity.

I haven't been reading the last posts properly 'cos i don't care who wins the argument and i apologise if what i'm about to ask has already benn answered but what is going to happen to the old seal pools or are the heritage listed.

Hey zooworker, I'm curious about the seal that had to be put down this week. What species was it? Another leopard seal?

No wasn't a leopard it was a young australian fur seal. Look the fact is i have to be carefuly about what i say, in terms of policy and also what i say in rebut to patricks points as number 1 our institution does come down on us like a tonne of bricks and in some situations so they should due to the fact there have been some leaks of confidential information to certain members of the greens party and other such organisations that have done alot of damage to the zoo after being twisted. (Short beaked echidnas in wollemi btw, they were on display in the noci house for a while i believe, heard something over the two way about it.) I understand why it would be quite hard for me to be believed due to a large amount of imposters which i've heard about. I joined this forum to discuss zoo issues and help people out in their questions and all i have been met with was opposition from many people who spend the entire time ripping peoples arguments apart instead of adding to discussion. I have said certain things that have offended people in the past as i was just disappointed that something such as this site that could be used to the benifit of all had turned into an arena for people to show off their knowledge and also pass judgements on zoo's and programs. I support discussion, what i don't like is judgements passed without better suggestions being made or alternatives. I would appreciate if this thread could get back on topic, and if you don't believe i'm a zookeeper thats your choice that everyone is entitled to make. I don't however appreciate people questioning my experience with petty points such as spelling mistakes or pointing out the obvious.

I asked about the long beaks today, they are off public exhibit at the moment and was told there would be little chance of see them because they are very nocturnal.
There are plenty of short beaks around 5 or 6 up by the old Koala Encounters area and like zooworker said also in the Wollomi.

Was this fur seal brought into Taronga, or elsewhere zooworker? Only I was talking to some of the marine mammal staff at the zoo the other day when I was there, and they said they haven't had any strandings brought in for quite a while.
