Taronga Zoo Taronga Zoo News 2023

I believe so. Taronga may look into holding Black and White (or Red Ruffed) as a semi point of difference to Dubbo who maintains a breeding group of Ringtails. Dubbo do have Black and White Ruffed though, so an exchange might be something they could consider.
More vegetation could be added, alongside elevated platforms for the Lemurs. The floor shouldn't be an issue imo. A lot of other exhibits around the zoo have a similar floor, and they don't present any issues afaik.
If I had a zoo, I would own ring-tailed and boh white and red ruffed subspecies. Lemurs are such funny things It'd be cool to see them running around.

I was under the impression of it being quite a rough area to work in. Other exhibits in the area have a solid soil and dirt ground so my impression from being there and watching people work there and complain about it was that it was a very bad and dangerous habitat

New Zealand fur seal pup now on display:

From socials:

Splish splash Kobe the fur seal pup has made his public debut splash.

As with all young, Kobe has short bursts of energy, suckles milk from mum Keke and then needs some time out in the behind-the-scenes seal nursery to nap and restore before doing it all over again!

They’ve been swapping pinnipeds around like nobody’s business lately. April is on loan from SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium and has been paired with Charlie, so Storm is likely the intended mate of their other females. Amalie is approaching her third birthday and the age she could conceive her first pup.

0.1 April - on breeding loan
0.1 Nala (2009) - Taronga born
0.1 Tarni (2016) - wild born
0.1 Amalie (2020) - Taronga born

Nura Diya Australia opens at Taronga Zoo

Nura Diya Australia will ultimately be home to 270 individual animals from 23 different species across the following landscapes:
  • Buru nura (Kangaroo Country)
  • Gulamany nura (Koala Country)
  • Wuragal nura (Dingo Country)
  • Nguwing yana (Night Walk, to open May 2023).

From what I've seen so far, it seems like a very impressive development. I look forward to visiting shortly.

Loggerhead turtle hatchlings released:

From socials:

These precious Loggerhead hatchlings were released back to Shelly Beach on the NSW Central Coast on Sunday following an epic egg rescue.

The eggs were excavated from Shelly Beach on March 29 when temperatures dropped, and 130 eggs were brought to Taronga Wildlife Hospital where they were kept in incubators for optimal temperature and humidity, and an entire team regularly monitored their progress and health.

According to a public Instagram post by one of the carnivore keepers at Taronga Zoo, the new male Fennec Fox is named Kureeru. He has been integrated with the zoo's female and it is hoped the pair will breed.
Seems to be a new male from overseas then. Could you possibly enquire into where he’s from?

Taronga’s female Zahra was actually their last kit born back in 2016 and it’s been a while since then! :) Hopefully they succeed as the region hasn’t had much success with them as of late.

532 Southern corroboree frog eggs released:

From socials:

Last week, our conservation team travelled to Kosciuszko National Park to release 532 Southern Corroboree Frog eggs that were produced through our Conservation Breeding Program.

To increase the success rate of the release, a number of strategies were used including releasing eggs into wild pools, artificial pools at wild sites and into the large, disease-free fenced enclosures located in remote parts of the alpine national park.

The release was done in partnership with the Department of Planning and Environment's Saving our Species program, with partners including Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary also supplying eggs from their breeding programs.

Green sea turtle released:

The turtle is part of the zoo’s post-release tracking programme.

From socials:

This Green turtle was able to be released back to the wild after receiving life-saving care at our Taronga Wildlife Hospital in Sydney.

The Green turtle was brought to our care on 6 January and an x-ray showed it had swallowed five fishing hooks. Since being nursed back to health by the hospital team, the turtle made a full recovery and was released last month thanks to a joint operation by Taronga Wildlife Hospital and Marine Area Command - NSW Police Force.

Before the turtle was released, she was fitted with a satellite tracker and will be part of our Taronga Marine Turtle Satellite Tracking program.
