In relation to the Komodo Dragon exhibit, the previous inhabitant was sent to another zoo for breeding. As the signage you saw indicates, there are plans to fill that exhibit. I've heard one possible plan (from a volunteer I know personally) but I won't post that here as it's not confirmed (but essentially fits with what we've speculated).

I was thinking something along the lines of a Lace Monitor possibly? They’re quite like Komodo Dragons imo.
