Will be great to see more silvery gibbons. Are there plans to get any more black crested macaque? Are Tasmania zoo the only holder In Australia for any species currently?

Tasmania Zoo are the only holders in Australia of Sulawesi black macaque. They have an elderly female and there are no plans to import more. This is the only mammal species they’re the only holder of, but are only one of two Mandrill holders as you’re aware.

How many holders are there of silvery gibbon
Three:
Mogo Zoo hold a breeding pair and their 0.3 offspring.
Perth Zoo hold a breeding pair and their 1.0 offspring, plus the brother of their breeding female
Tasmania Zoo hold 0.1.
Tasmania Zoo are one of three holders of silvery gibbon (the others being Mogo and Perth) and as stated will be importing a boy in the near future.
As for the black macaque, Ceda is the only one in Australia and the species has long been on the phase out list in terms of regional management so I’d say no plans to get more.
The zoo overall is working on a number of imports of new species or additional animals to form breeding groups with existing animals but as a result of covid delays on transport are only just now been able to get on track with these. So watch this space I guess and hopefully some exciting news to come!

That's a shame - the EEP is screaming and shouting for more holders, but there are very few takers.

Im aware of the otters, gibbons and snow leopards, but what other species are planned? I saw 2 exhibits with coming soon signs and 2 empty exhibits, so is there anything planned for them?
I've uploaded some photos to the Tasmania Zoo gallery for those who'd like to get a vibe for what the zoo is like, seen as the last photos added were from 8 years ago I thought it could do with some new ones. Hopefully I'll be uploading some more later this week.
Thanks for uploading these. It was particularly interesting to see the Snow leopard exhibit. I’m sure we’d all like to see one of the Mandrill cage if you have one - especially since it’s an exhibit likely to disappear (or be repurposed) in the future.

If there is an image of the siamang exhibit they are very similar
The mandrill enclosure is the same one as in the previous photo in the gallery from ages ago, but I will post pics of this as it has been extended and change up a little.

As this video contains two Silvery gibbons calling with one another, this confirms that the male the zoo had announced intending to import from the US, has indeed arrived and has been integrated with their Mogo-born female, Cinta. Great news for the regional program to have another potential breeding pair formed!

Great news! The new male comes from the Greensboro Science Centre in the USA and is widely believed to be Duke (born 2013), who was mentioned to be leaving in the US threads.
There’s mention of Tasmania Zoo importing from the US as far back as 2021 - an indication of how lengthy the import process is.

Duke confirmed as new male Javan gibbon:
We have confirmation, the male is indeed Duke, who was born April 2013 at the Greensboro Science Centre in the US. His parents were bred at the Gibbon Conservation Centre in California.

We feel very privileged to have been able to work with Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland to help import these new animals to Australia, having travelled all the way from Texas.
Be sure to come visit Millie and Jefferson soon as they will only be with us for a short period of time before they head to Queensland.
