I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on this....but does anybody have any inside info on the Tasmanian Devils? Their new Aussie exhibit is going to have them. They are on the map and I've been able to get confirmation that they are going to have them but I get conflicting info on when. I'm planning a trip to CA. but want to wait until they are on display before I go. The worst would be going and then the next week they put them out on display. I've called numerous times and nobody want s to really discuss them. I talked to a higher up a few weeks ago who said they don't have them and have no idea when they will even get them and then today talked to a guest services rep that said they were just waiting for them to acclimate to their exhibit??? I'd be better off asking for their bank accounts and socials and would get better answers! Does anybody have any insiders or can anybody visiting the new exhibit ask about the Devils? Chomping at the bit to go but I just don't want to miss them.

The strange part is that the girl I spoke to today made it seem as if they were already there. Why else would she say "they have to get acclimated to their exhibit" unless they were there "acclimating"....unless she was just flat out lying???

probably more of a miscommunication, or a standard answer to a question she didn't know the answer to. On one of the new photos in the gallery (by betsy?) the member was told they are looking at December for an arrival. So basically, nobody knows.

We are grilled NEVER to tell / claim something that is inaccurate. If you do not honestly know the answer to a particular question by the general public you say "Sorry, I do not know the answer to that question." Which is perfectly reasonable.

You might assure visitors that you will be enquiring with the zoo department and possibly have an answer next time they visit the zoo.

The May 2013 Zoonooz newsletter from the zoo said that they expect the devils relatively soon, hopefully by the end of the year. This is the only official information that I have seen from the zoo about it. Our fellow Zoochatter Betsy said that she asked a docent and was told they hoped by Christmas.

If you e-mail or ask the zoo on Facebook maybe they will give you something more definitive. As Chlidonias mentioned it may be that the zoo really doesn't know yet exactly when they are coming.

Or, like, my email and phone calls, will be completely ignored. I suspect that the issue is a sore spot; a deal fell through somewhere that would have ensured their timely arrival, and San Diego has been left holding the proverbial bag.

One to two years sounds reasonable to try and export a couple of iconic animals from Australia. Don't they have a six month quarentine period?

Actually, not a docent as they aren't allowed to say anything until it is official. The zoo has some great volunteers and some that just make things up. It was from someone who used to work at the zoo and usually has good information. If I hear anything official. I will post it.

The devils are coming! The sign says "The Devils made us do it. Create a new home for them, that is! Over the next few weeks, we will be crafting a perfect habitat with burrows, caves, logs, and more to house Tasmanian devils. They will debut this fall."

So they are going into the current Parma wallaby exhibit? What a shame. At least they are landscaping it I guess. I wish the parma wallabies were mixed with something more exciting than koalas.

The devils went on exhibit today. They are in all three of the exhibits, so the both the wombats and wallabies have been moved.

My bet would be into those stall like enclosures that house the Tree Kangaroos, with the cage with that little deer thing and a touraco beside it.

Or possibly into the Koala cages. I know they have wallabies in a few of them already and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the moved animals in there.

Also the little deer thing might be a royal antelope, but I'm not sure...

The devils are named after donor Conrad Prebys, his partner Debbie and his two sons Nick and Jake.
