Can anyone add to the conundrum about whether the Tasmanian Devil is still found wild in Victoria on the Australian mainland, and so is not confined to Tasmania as previously thought? Apparently five(?) specimens have been found in Victoria in the last 100 years, the last two as recently as 1991 and are now in the Melbourne museum. Escapees or genuine wild ones?

I wonder if there are plans to reintroduce Tasmanian Devils to some mainland Australian reserves?
It would make sense:
- Devils are native to Australian mainland and went extinct due to man-made cause (dingo).
- It is possible where dingos are gone from parts of Australia,
- It would create population of devils safe from facial tumor,
- It might help to keep foxes and cats in check

I believe there is a need to reintroduce dingoes in to areas they are vanishing from. 75 million native animals are killed by feral cats every night in Australia and dingoes are our only native defence against that. There is Devil Ark which is a huge facility in NSW that allows the devils to live basically wild lives.
