This thread is created to know every personal preferente of the wonderful zoochatters and I would love to know which specific animals or species, of the grup you've selected in the poll, do you love most to see in zoos/aquariums.
Sorry if there's another thread like this one and I hope everyone enjoys!!!

I'll start saying that my favourite animals are manatees and dugongs. I really enjoy seeing the giant blobs soaring through the water and munching on lettuce. I've even feed the creatures and it was incredible!

I have a massive bias towards fish and aquatic invertebrates, so of course I love aquariums but I especially adore when a zoo also has a robust selection of aquaria.

I voted for invertebrates. As far as invertebrates go, a lot of zoos I've visited either have none at all (or at least none that you can see), or just have the basic Madagascar hissing cockroaches and giant African land snails that you can only see during a keeper talk an hour before closing time. So for me, it's always a huge plus if a zoo has their insects and arachnids on-show and easy to view.

Tough call, because there are both groups that I love and am not overly fond of within each of these overarching categories. Amongst mammals, primates are some of my favorite animals ever- however I'm not overly fond of much of Carnivora. Similarly, there are certain groups of birds, reptiles, and each of the other categories that I'm big fans of- and other groups that I don't care for that much.

I voted for amphibians, however, not due to some large interest in them over other animals, but due to the fact they are wonderful animals to see in zoos due to their conservation need, relative small size, and strong potential for ex-situ conservation programs.

Close call between birds and reptiles, but I decided to go with birds. There is a ton of interesting variety between vocals, behavior, and nests, and I've had so many memorable interactions with them. They're also the group I go out in the wild to look for most.

I'm more lukewarm on mammals than many here tbh, and they'd be a distant 3rd or 4th for me... some species are interesting to me and make for cool displays, but I'm not a rodent fan, ungulates tend to get repetitive quickly for me, and a lot of carnivores underwhelm me in zoo settings (lots of sleeping and/or staying hidden).

I like mammals the most except I like rather newish ones as when they get older the color sometimes fades from their fur.

All life is interesting and it's impossible to pick so I will happily explain what fascinates me from each group:

Of all mammals I'd say love even-toed ungulates the most. Just all the different coat patterns and horn shapes greatly interests me.

Birds were my first love of the natural world and I'm a keen birdwatcher and have many fond memories of me birdwatching as a young child.

Reptiles are probably my least favourite group but species like tuataras and a couple oddball species interest me greatly.

Amphibians, particularly my favourites: caecilians are one of my favourite group of organisms. I find them very unusual and personally rather adorable :D

A group that often falls by the wayside compared to other groups but the sheer diversity, even just the cichlids of the African lakes are enough to get anyone finding great beauty in fish.

Invertebrates are the unsung heroes. Helping pollinate plants for the plant's own reproduction and also most of the world's recyclers are invertebrates and do us a terrific service. Without inverts the world as we know it wouldn't exist so that is why inverts take the crown for me. :)
