Welcome to Arizona! I'm glad you're enjoying your zoo tour (and spring training games) so far and I look forward to hearing what your thoughts are about our zoos. That was nice of Arizona Docent to show you around his zoo.

Will you have time for the SeaLife Aquarium at Arizona Mills in Tempe? Or any other parts of Arizona?

Thanks again Arizona Docent you really are great and we really appreciated you showing us around!

@Talle unfortunately we are back in Cleveland in addition to ASDM Reid Park Zoo and PHX Zoo we also visited Grand Canyon and Red Rocks State park in Sedona as well as 3 spring training baseball games.

Impossible to get to all the animal places in AZ in one trip. I'm a native and still have a few to get to. I suppose you didn't have time for Bearizona or the Grand Canyon Deer Farm in Williams?

Talli, have you been to Bearizona yet? I haven't. It doesn't help that it's an almost 3 hour drive from my area and I don't have the most reliable vehicle. I'm hoping to get up there the weekend of my birthday (April) or the weekend after. Finally.

If you've been there, what did you think?

I know I am not Talli, but just to chip in I have not been there either (Bearizona). One of their staff people did join ZooChat recently. They even PM'd me with an invite to visit on a docent discount. One of these days I will make it up there (probably after they get the planned mountain lion addition).

As for the Deer Farm, based on the photos I have seen, there is no reason for anyone to visit unless you have children between the ages of 2 and 6.

I wonder when that will happen. I remember when they first opened that was one of the planned exhibits, but that was, what, almost 3 years ago now. I really want to go see the bear cubs, but as they seem to have some born every year, I guess I can wait. I like Mountain Lions. :)

I have been to Bearizona and I enjoyed it. I wish I had cleaned my windows before driving through - too late when you're surrounded by bears! When you get to the end of the drive through portion, there's a walk through part with enclosures for several native animals - wolves, etc. It wasn't finished when I was there. One of the keepers was in with the wolves "playing" with them, which was fun. There's also a food stand, gift shop and restrooms. They had two different patches which made me happy.
The deer farm would fall under the "guilty pleasure" part for me. It's very basic, but I get a kick out of getting to interact and feed stuff.
The three places in AZ that I know about and haven't been to are: Out of Africa (almost got there when it was still in Fountain Hills, got a bad flu bug, and it just hasn't worked out since), Keepers of the Wild in Valentine, and Saihati Camel Farm in Yuma (I got there once, but it was closed for the day).
azcheetah2, too bad I can't go anywhere these days, maybe we could have done a road trip.

Hey, Talli! Well, if your situation ever changes, hit me up and we'll do that road trip, huh? Thanks for the tip about making sure you have clean windows. I'd hate to realize my windows were dirty when there's a big ol black bear in front of me.

I've never heard of the camel farm in Yuma and I've visited Out of Africa in both locations. I've been to Keepers of the Wild once. It was awesome. It was later in the day, near closing time, so I pretty much had the place to myself except for the staff and possibly other guests in a different area I couldn't see. I had a great interaction with one of the tigers that still touches me. I need to get back there, but it's such a long drive from the Phoenix area and even from Las Vegas.

A reptile place in Apache Junction? I'm not aware of that one. I know there's the Phoenix Herpetological Society in Scottsdale. I've been to that one. Pretty neat place. There's also the Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

I didn't realize either of those were open to the public. Have to add to my list!

I wonder if the place in Apache Junction closed - the link to the website seems to be broken now.
