The best exhibits

I will say Ostrava's setup interested me as they had a decent indoor pool from memory and then had a decent sized outdoor yard for grazing. My criticism would be that, while it's certainly ideal during the warmer months, in the winter they don't seem to have much access to land.

I do think that the approach of big indoor pool and large grassy outdoors with no pool is an interesting and reasonable direction to go in. Personally I find Berlin's outdoors quite small and Cologne's ungrassy but for city zoos it might be the best bet.

Not been to Cologne yet but I would agree that Berlin's is a bit small. I agree that a large indoor pool and outdoor yard might be the best way to keep them, but as mentioned it runs the risk of leaving the animals without much of any land access when the weather's not ideal.

On another note, I just realized that I don't think anyone's mentioned Wroclaw's enclosure in the Afrykarium. They have a very remarkable pool, although I don't remember there being all too much in the way of land space.

I agree with @Marco Penello : in my opinion Beauval is by far the best in Europe, and I have seen Berlin, Whipsnade..
I you have a look at the Beauval gallery and skip to around halfway through page 4, you will see how amazing it is and above all, for hippo enclosures, how clear the water is!:D
