Some amazing animal portraits here:

The Biodiversity Project Joel Sartore

For many of Earth’s creatures, time is running out. Half of the world’s plant and animal species will soon be threatened with extinction. The goal of the Biodiversity Project is simple: to show what’s at stake, and to get people to care, while there’s still time to save them. More than 1,800 species have been photographed to date, with more to come.

This is cool. I especially like his parrot portraits (hawk-headed parrot, palm cockatoo).

His photos are beautiful. He took a photo of Buki, an elephant from the Buffalo Zoo, before she died. Actually at the art auction this year, his photo was a part of the silent auction. I wish I remembered what was the final bid.

I noticed during his behind scenes video he was using a flash on his camera. However, it seemed didn't seem so bright to disturb the animals. Is there a flash setting on cameras that allow this? I wouldn't mind using flash to make a photo look better, but I don't want to cause stress to the animal.
