In Sweden, there are two zoos that have Elephants. It is Kolmarden Zoo and the Borås Zoo. I was going to tell you a little about them, how they live and how future plans are.

Borås Djurpark - African Elephants

In Borås Zoo live 6 in the African Savanah Elephants. Those living in the newly-built elephant house, and on the 23,000 square meter savannas. There are also several enclouse near to the elephant house. In The elephant house also live Giraffes, Whiterhinos & Hornbill s.

Kibo

Kibo is the Borås Zoo´s breeding male, and is already father to 4 kids. Which three, Kwanza, Panzi & M'Changa lives. The daughter pili, unfortunately, is dead. The park is looking right now after a suitable bredning bull to Borås zoo, to beget further on Kwanza. Kibo was born Nov. 27, 1977 at Hanover Zoo. He moved to Borås Zoo in 1986. Beira and Tembo called his parents, but they are dead. Kibo will not show for public, since he both throw stones and sticks.

N'YOUKA

N'Youka is Borås Zoo's oldest elephant cow, and was born in 1978. Unfortunately, she is wild caught, and moved to Borås in 1979. I would say that there is something magical to stand beside this cow, and I can say with certainty that she is Sweden's most sweet elephant, but she has not had any kids. And it said she did not get, she is simply too old to get the first cub.

DUDU
http://www.zoochat.com/759/elephants-dudu-m-changa-53803/

Dudu is Borås Animal Park's reproductive elephant cow, and has 3 elephant cubs, Kwanza, Panzi & M'Changa. She was born in the Kruger National Park in 1990, and arrived to Borås Park on August 11, the same date as her son was born M'Changa, but 15 years later.

Kwanza

Kwanza is Sweden's first elephant baby. She was born on August 13 2001. Mom and Dad are Dudu and Kibo. When she birth she weighed ca.80kg. She is very "overprotective" of hes younger brother, M'Changa, so she becomes violent. She has 3 siblings, pili (half sibling, death), Panzi & M'Changa.

PANZI

Panzi was born May 5, 2005. I myself was at the year opening of Kolmarden, and was told the news of the elephant keeper house there. The mother is Dudu & Dad is Kibo. She is a sibling to the Kwanza, pili (half sibling, death) & M'Changa.

M'CHANGA
http://www.zoochat.com/747/boras-zoo-2008-a-48423/

M'Changa is Borås youngest elephant. He was born August 11 2008. He is very playful and weighed 100 kg at birth. His mom called Dudu & Dad called Kibo. He has 3 siblings, Kwanza, pili (half sibling, death), & Panzi.

Kolmården Zoo - Asian Elephants

In Kolmården Zoo currently lives three Asian elephants. Bua, Sanoi & Saba. Those living in Kolloseum, originally stables for Kolmårdens largest animal, Elephants, Giraffes & rhinos. But now lives here Asian Elephants, Whiterhinos & Meerkats. The Elephants can move in two room in Kolloseum, and in the exbith called Elephant Valley , and in a back enclouse. When keepers have time, take a ride in the woods, but not when the park is open. http://www.zoochat.com/472/elephants-rhino-stable-56203/

http://www.zoochat.com/472/elephant-cow-bua-kolmarden-zoo-50001/

Bua is Kolmårdens youngest elephant. She came to Kolmarden April 7, 2004, together with Sanoi. She was a gift from the Thai king to the Swedish king. But because it could not stay in Drotningsholms castle was Kolmården a good altenativ, as it recently lost all of their elephants into TBC disease. Bua was born in 1997 in Thailand, she lived most recently in Pala-U Elephant camp. Bua was in 2004 when she weighed 1500kg and was 175cm tall.

SANOI http://www.zoochat.com/472/elephant-cow-sanoi-kolmarden-50004/

Sanoi came with Bua to Kolmarden the 7april 2004. (Read more in Bua text) She was born in 1996 in Thailand, before she moved to Sweden she leved together with Bua in the Pala-U Elephant camp.

SABA

Saba was born in 1968 in the wild. She was then taken to a French animal deeler, and then sold to DOMPIERRE Le Pal Zoo 1973-01-01. But after that she was "bullied" in the zoo , and she moved 2007-11-07 to Kolmarden Zoo.

Kolmården'm looking right now after a bull to Bua and Sanoi.

Osnabrück Zoo in Germany is searching a new african bull. Maybe it is possible to change the bulls. Tutume in Osnabrück is born in 1999 and in Osnabrück lives Matibi his sister.

It is totally impossible to keep a bull like Kibo, who is agressive and throws stones at visitors, in Osnabrück`s bull facility.

Kibo need a home with a big exbith, which is not near of the visitors. I know the elephant keeper in Borås Zoo, so once when I was there, I , and the keepers went down to Kibo, and feed him with bananas. When the bannanas was end, the keeper say: Run fore your lives! Kibo start throwing rocks when the food is over! :D:D:D

Then when he really has to leave boras, I think it will be the best to send him to a Safari Park, where he has got a great exhibit.
It's a pity that he is so aggressiv and not show for public, becaus he is a very nice looking bull!

I suppose Kibo could be sent out to a safari park like Cabarceno and another mature bull brought in from either a continential zoo or from candidate bull elephants in southern Africa from culling programmes ...

great review, rillekolmard

It was discussed on anotther thread, so I'm not too sure but wasn't Thisiam being planned to go to Kolmarden?

It has been talked about several elephant bulls to Kolmården. For perhaps 2 years ago (guess) so it was in the local paper that a new bull from France would come to Kolmården. But, after a time, we learned that he was infected with TB. I can not remember what his name, says nothing on the Web, either. Can check in one of my Journal heaps! :D:D

I'm not so good in English!

Well then! You were right! The bull Thisiam would arrive in the summer of 2006. I think he lived in Plock Zoo, but was born at Paris Zoo. Is it right? But he is infected with TB. Right? Since the whole Kolmården previous group elephant died of TB, I do not think the park wanted the infection again ... Also all buffaloes & Rhinoceros was slowly falling asleep, forever. While some giraffe. :(

wow! Thisiam having TB! he had only lived with Santosh for a short while and now is by himself.. but I guess he could of got it from Paris..
Yeah I know about the terrible TB case the herd looked quite established and a baby was on the way, but then stillborn and the whole herd eventually got put down..
where did this originate from?

It is unclear where Tb infection came from. I remember that the entire Swedish press followed the drama, day to day. Poor animal keepers. Lose all their animal friends, it was like a family for them! Some years ago , the African Elephants Shona and her kid Pili died in TB in Boras Zoo to.

GRUPP.JPG
Old group /Donkey , Mida , Putschi. In the backround , i think the bull Brahma.
S.JPG
Old elephant/ I think Sandai, the last elephant , with a to big baby in the stomach.

Since when Kibo is so aggressiv an not show for public? And is there a case why he is so aggressiv?

Most elephant males are agresiv when it starts to become sexually mature. It's probably nothing to do. The staff had previously been difficult to manage on his feet, but it has now built the walls in the elephant house like large "net", which then Kibo trained to take out a leg or trunk.

Sorry , but my english is not so good:o

Here you se a net , but its not the "Kibo net", and Its not Kibo on the photo :D

yeah bull elephants are much more aggressive compared to other animals, still most bulls are on display is it just so happens him as an individual?

ah, what I mean is that Kibo is just aggressive on himself. not any clear reason.

I know many adults elephants bulls in Germany which are sexual mature and no one is so aggressiv as if told about Kibo.
For exemple Bindu in Cologne. In Port Lympne he should was very aggressiv. In Cologne he didn't show this attitude.
And in Hamburg it is no problem to touch the bull Hussein above the ditch.

Of course elephants bulls are more dangerous and aggressiv than femals, but Kibo seems to be a very extremly case.

The only elephant who throws with things in Germany should be the african female Aruba at Kronberg Zoo I think.
Many years ago, when the big bull Ali was still alive, he had hit with his trunk on Arubas hip. She went lame for a long time. Now there is chronic pain or inflammination. At the zoo they think this pain an inflammination are responsible for the aggressiv attitude of Aruba.
Maybe there is a similar reason for Kibos aggression. Maybe pain/problems with his lost tusk.
