The following species in the United States

Los Angeles had crab eating foxes and raccoon dogs in the seventies. San Diego Zoo had a red goral in the late sixties and early seventies, I'm not sure how long it lived. I took photos of it in 1971 or early 72.
I have a number of duplicate zoo/ nature books, pm me if you are interested.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate your information, it is very very informative, and I find it very interesting that the San Diego Zoo had Red goral in the 60s and 70s, they probably got the privelage of exhibiting such astonishing creatures because the San Diego Zoo has a great trade relationship with the Peoples Republic of China, anyways I am very interested in your Zoo/Nature books because I collect zoo and nature books and have a growing library, I cannot thank you enough for your information, you contribute a great amount to zoochat, thanks for joining our community

Excuse my amalgamation of the two, but I thought I remembered them being on exhibit some years ago. I thought Michael would be the right one to ask. Thanks Michael.

Here is what I think, an you are hearing this from the person asking about chinkara gazelles in US zoos, I would think there hasnt been because they only made it to 2 european zoos which are Bremen Tierpark in Germany and also the London Zoo, but they are in 3 middle eastern facilites which are Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation in qatar, Al Ain Zoo in the United arab emirates and also the Doha Zoo in qatar, but then again there are species that never made it to europe that made it to the US and those include Coquerels sifakas and MacNeils red deer, but then again, you never know

I also found out that the San Diego Zoo had Philippine brown deer and they might have had Marsh deer in the 1970s, I also wonder if Denver Zoo had Marsh deer because there is a Diorama at the Denver Museum of Natural History displaying Marsh deer

From my list I found out that they have Syrian brown bears at Space Farms Zoo & Museum in Sussex, NJ and I also found out that they had Cokes hartebeest at Memphis Zoo and at San Antonio Zoo

The zoo in Baton Rouge had Syrian Brown bear in the early eighties. I saw them in 1982.
Indigo, do you still need a copy of Crandall? I have extras.

Wow, I never knew that Baton Rouge Zoo had Syrian brown bears, I thought Space Farms and Detroit were the only ones in the United states, also I know Baton Rouge Zoo had Nilgiri tahrs (Nilgiritragus hylocrius), what else did Baton Rouge Zoo have that they no longer have besides these two species ?, and also thanks Michael, I still do need a copy of Crandall !!!

I managed to get more information about another species on my list, that species is the Marco polo argali (Ovis ammon polii), they actually had them at the Bronx Zoo in the 1950s and at the Cleveland Zoo in the 1950s

I found out that they had Visayan spotted deer at the Philadelphia Zoo
I found out that they had Mountain gazelle at Bronx Zoo
I found out that they had Vicuna at the Smithsonian National Zoo
I found out that they had Southern grysboks at the Bronx Zoo
I found out that they had Four horned antelopes at the Bronx Zoo
I found out that they had Indian spotted chevrotains at the Bronx Zoo
I found out that they had Kashmir stags and Caspian red deer at the Bronx Zoo
I found out that they had Manchurian wapiti at the Smithsonian National Zoo

I found more accurate info on Chinkara gazelles in the United States, it turns out that the San Diego Zoo had them in the 1920s, they got them from either the 1925 or 1927 Australian Expedition, on the expedition they also got a pair of Lowland anoas, they got stuck in Honolulu for a while because the importer did not arrange quarentine for those animals
