The football thread

well, England could only muster a draw against Montenegro.
Scotland only lost 2-0, and now have no chance of qualification.
I think I saw somewhere that scotland are out before san marino, Lichenstein, Andorra, Luxembourg and others.

indeed, Israel are doing well, russia will win the group I think as they're winning the group and have played two games less than anyone else
I still believe that Portugal will be second as the games with Russia and Israel are here, and we can easily win them.

Too bad that Scotland won´t qualify, it would be nice to see them in the World Cup!

Man city lost to Tottenham today, so if Man united beat lowly placed Aston villa, they'll have won the Barclay's premier league :D

And if Aston Villa win, Queen's Park Rangers and Reading will be relegated. One, or both of them will be relegated next Saturday anyway, they are playing each other.

Well I'm not sure how you can say it doesn't matter because at the moment it is still possible for any of the 6 or 7 bottom teams to go down!!!

Come on, whilst it's (mathematically/theoretically) possible that any of the bottom 6 or 7 teams could go down it's highly probable, to the point of near certainty, that it'll be Reading, QPR and one other. The one other is currently far from certain but, without studying fixtures left in depth, would seem most likely to be Wigan or your beloved Villa.

You'll struggle to find anyone who would bet that Reading or QPR are staying up (I'd take their bet) and I doubt you'll find a bookie offering odds on them going down.

While its mathematically/theoretically possibly my coment is correct!

Are you happy to agree on, "it's very highly probable that the game against each other won't matter much and they'll most probably be both relegated anyway"?:D

Anyone who thinks Saurez was overly aggressive and even animal like (I do try to keep some animal / zoo link in where possible) in his behaviour to bite the arm of Ivanovic, then a quick study of Uruguayan culture would see this was only a love bite or a mere ‘nip’ of affection.

Football league round up

since it was the last day of the league 1 and 2 season, and penultimate game in the championship, so here is the......

football league round up (gameweek 46 for league 1 and 2, 45 for the championship)

championship

Hull missed the chance to gain 1 point and secure the second automatic promotion place against lowly placed Barnsley, losing 2-0. They're now just 1 point above watford, Hull having the hardest final game (against already champions Cardiff).
Brighton secure the fist play-off place.
wolves are essentially relegated to league 1, they're 3 points off safety with 1 game remaining.

league 1

Doncaster won the winner takes all game against brentford, scoring a dramatic 94th minute winner, counter attacking after Brentford missed a penalty at the other end. They, bournemouth, and either Brentford, yeovil, sheff utd, or swindon will be playing in the Championship next season.

At the other and of the table, Scunthorpe ended the day and the season in the fourth relegation spot. They, Bury, hartlepool, and portsmouth will be in league 2 next season.

League 2

Rotherham, port vale, and already promoted Gillingham will be playing in league one next season. Burton, Cheltenham, Northampton, and bradford make up the play offs.

Wimbeldon made the great escape, out of the relegation zone in the expense of Barnet. They and Aldershot will be Non-league next season.

so........ opinions on the champions league final to be between Bayern munich and borussia dortmund.

and Gareth Bale winning the PFA and the PFA young player of the year?

Yet another reason to get Nano and Khaki on a trip to Alabama, let them experience a college (american) football game.
