The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

Purple Faced Langeus need a male to become an established breeding group, wolves seemed very depressed.

Last time I was there the Purple faced Langurs were a breeding pair + male offspring, and then 2.0 living seperately. So they need more females, rather than a male.

Agree the wolf setup isn't entirely ideal- its a female(?) only group so socially not a natural pack- I think they don't like people looking at them from above that much either.

West Midlands

Good-Sea Lion show (as always), Reptile Collection, White Lions are fantastic

Bad- 'Glass Box' (Amur Leopard enclosure), Sea Lion enclosure is a bit too small

Ugly-Asian Rhino house, Hippo enclosure and tiny house with no public viewing, Amusement area is very loud and looking extremely shabby.

I would agree with most of this, although the obsession with the 'white' species should serve the 'bad' label.

I just realised my mistake, apologies. The (2,0) Langurs are kept with the Lar Gibbons (0,2) next to the birds of prey aviaries. The breeding pair are situated next to the Insect House, in the courtyard with the Reptile House, Siamangs and Bats. The wolves are an all female pack (0,4) I think.

To safeguard the Langurs for the future, they really need about 0.3 more added. However it may be next to impossible to source any. Sadly I can't see how they can maintain them longterm with this ratio. Either the breeding pair or the two males are the last ones from Twycross(probably the pair).

Wolves, yes its four females. Probably chosen to prevent breeding but socially not a healthy mix.

Cotswold;

Good- Walled Garden area, Reptile collection, Madagascar lemurs, beautiful parkland & general quality of enclosures.

Bad- Nothing.

Ugly- Nothing.

I second that. A wonderful place to visit with new gems each time we go.
Always clean and tidy.
Good = Everything

Agree entirely. Cotswold and Blackbrook are the two great undicovered zoos of this country - superb collections that still seem to slip under the radar. They're two I always recommend to anyone who asks where to go because they're not 'obvious' but they're excellent.

And thinking about it, they're probably the next two zoos I'm doing. Even better. :D

I agree, but....

Good - Madagascan Walk-through Exhibit

Bad - Owl Aviaries and Red Panda enclosure

Ugly - Fruit Bat Cave and Invertebrate House
