The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens The Living Desert News

You jest, but Antwerp unironically mixed meerkats/yellow mongooses in with lions, so...

Edinburgh once tried introducing Meerkats into the ground squirrel enclosure...

Though it's certainly tough to match South Lakes' South American habitats with Andean Bear, Brazilian Tapir, Tufted Capuchin, South American Coati, and Asian Small Clawed Otters and then Giant Otter and Lowland Paca mixed.

Did you see any work on the new bird of prey/prairie dog exhibit. If I’m correct it would have been near the desert pup fish in the Sonoran garden.

In other news, the last two Cuvier’s gazelles have been shipped out. These were the last two individuals of this species on display in the country.

I guess they don't update their website often because even a year later they still have Cuvier's gazelles listed.

The Palm Oasis Aviary has been revamped, however, the prairie dogs that were supposed to be in there are off exhibit. Inside the walk through portion the species I saw were: barn owl, burrowing owl, turkey vulture, greater roadrunner and raven. Just outside the entrance to the walk-through aviary is a newer enclosure for red-shouldered hawks.

I also attended the "Wildlife Amphitheater Connections" show which, based on what I saw yesterday, is an educational talk featuring some animal ambassadors. Yesterday they highlighted Hercules the desert tortoise and Sonora the female Harris's hawk.

The banded mongoose haven't yet arrived for their exhibit in the new Rhino Savanna.
