Nah, it was just aimed at the people on Facebook who become outraged by things they know very little about. The people who see things only from an emotional viewpoint; not a realistic viewpoint.

I made a comment myself on Facebook the other week regarding one of my pets and while two people responded appropriately; another two jumped down my throat with misguided advice I hadn’t even asked for. Any attempts to explain just inflamed their responses.

It made me think how zoos have to deal with this issue on a regular basis and how careful they must be when choosing what to announce versus what not to announce on social media. The people with negative opinions are often replying with opinions based on emotion (not fact) and generally can’t be reasoned with. It must be especially frustrating for zoo staff who A) Have both a theoretical and practical knowledge of animals far beyond the average Facebook user; and B) Know there’s more to the issue than the public are aware of.

I don’t agree with every decision made by every zoo; but when I do disagree, I try to see things from their point of view or assume there’s things I’m not aware of.
